Have any of you read this book? If so please share your thoughts on it here. I am thinking of picking it up and looking into it. Please tell me what you all think.

thanks

Well it's non fiction. So I don't go there for fun too often.

However, I'm considering it as a nominee for one of my books clubs because I keep hearing raves about it and it does sound like a great memoir type of book journey.

I'm waiting for there to be less than 50 billion holds on the first copy returned at my library. I like there to be at least six copies on the shelf for any books nominated in the group.

I hear it's great.

Yeah I'm hearing nothing but glowing reviews as well.

then again who wouldn't enjoy reading about someone traveling the world like this. Fascinating.

Hey...I've watched both Oprah specials (basically a two hour commercial) and damn if I haven't been sucked into wanting to get it. In fact I suggested to my mother that they read it for her book club. It was on the best seller list forever..maybe still? so how bad can it be?

I do have to say the author was on and she seems well...enlightened but not in any kind of snobby way. Kind of like someone you would want for a friend. She talked yesterday about building a wall of "no" around herself and really taking time for her instead of helping others at the expense of herself. It's kind of the same idea we hear all the time but I like how she puts it and how she puts her story out there. If we had any kind of decent library around here (it's literally a store front with 3 aisles of books) I would check it out. I might just have to bite the bullet and buy it.

If you pick it for the book club I might have to just use it as an excuse to buy it..and say "yes" to me.

Wait.

It's an Oprah book?

Damn.

That just about kills it for me then.

I saw the Oprah shows too...and having worked in a book store I know how popular it was when it came out.

I haven't read it but my curiousity is piqued! I hope I get it for Christmas! :D

Furry: As far as I know it's not..she just happened to have her on the show about a month or two ago and then it was so popular she had her on again yesterday. I've found some of the oprah books to be "eh" but because the author was on...and I liked what she had to say...again not snobby or..mm above anything...like better than anyone...well it makes me want to read what she wrote.

I think it must be the one I saw part of the Oprah interview on earlier this week also. I can see it appealing to a lot of the subs just for the way her now husband said 'It's enough, come to my bed now!'...and thus was the first time they had sex and she says the rest is history. Probably not one I will rush for though. I used to be a biography/autobiography addict in days gone by, but now it seems every man and his dog is writing one about themselves or when they fell over at the supermarket etc., so it increases the odds greatly for them to be bad unfortunately.

I know, I can hardly read ANYTHING anymore!

When the reviews came in on this, it just seemed so depressingly like another "middle class white woman finds self in the mediterranean and East" kind of thing...maybe it's not, dunno. I mean I could see myself going to Italy and India and Bali - but I'd spare everyone the book of my realizations I think.

I read a great deal each month but Oprah reads are so not my thing. For pleasure I prefer fiction too.

I'd read anything you wrote btw.
