Sunday, Swimmer gave me my Christmas present. Wait, it was entirely appropiate. You see it was the first day of advent, the day that my family traditionally starts decorating for Christmas, and the gift was a nativity set. Not just any nativity set, but a eremitic set with two features that I have never seen together: the baby Jesus is removable from the manger, and two Marys; one very pregnant, and one not. Both are very much the same young woman.
So there is a stable on the buffet in the dining room with cattle eating hay from the manger. On the china closet, there are several sheppards tending their sheep. On the mantle, Joseph and a very pregnant Mary are making their way to the stable. All the way over there, on that bookcase are the three wise guys, headed toward that same stable,
So now I have not one gift, but two. The nativity set, and the knowledge that she really was listening, after all.
