I got my ears peirced yesterday and they are really bugging me, i mean theres a little pain in both of them? Will this subside and go away or does this mean they will get infected?

A little pain is ok, but any redness, swelling or discharge needs taking care of. They will be a little sore for a day or two but it usually settles down. Clean them twice a day (your piercer should have given you some cleaning solution - use a fresh cotton bud each time). Turn the studs gently at this time too (make sure your hands are clean). Mine were completely healed in 6 weeks.

hate to contradict here.....

but DO NOT turn your earrings at any stage!
your fingers are the biggest cause of infection in any piercing.
the only time you can touch your new piercing is in the shower, after you have washed your hands in an antibacterial solution for 60 seconds min.
then use the same solution to wash your ears, and then - AND ONLY THEN - can you use your fingers to turn the earrings to bring the solution into your piercings.

if you turn your earrings without thoroughly cleaning them, you will be introducing bacteria directly into the piercings.
as well as causing minute scratches to the newly forming sinus channel because of any dried discharge (plasma) on the ring itself, delaying healing further.

BTW - i am a body piercer.

Also, to add my two cents...
If the piercer did not provide a cleaning solution (which can happen in some lower quality salons) then you can use alcohol. But never ever use peroxide. I know so many ppl who have did that and assumed it was the same.
And yes, some pain is normal. It also varies depending on where the piercing is. The higher I go on my ears, the longer the pain lasts and the longer it takes to heal.

One thing to be aware of if it doesn't heal is the MATERIAL of the earring
Some jewelry, especially the cheaper or "free" ones some places put in are made of composites or nickel or plated materials that will irritate or cause allergic reactions
I have issues with anything but surgical steel or sterling silver, and my piercing is 16 years old!
When I got pierced it stayed irritated & didn't heal for oer a year 'till a friend gave me a SS "training stud" that I wore for a while. Within a couple of weeks it finally cleared up & healed :D

Just so you know... if you don't have rubbing alcohol, vodka works too... good if you're at a party and they start hurting. in general, vodka is a great disinfectant.

I've used hydrogen peroxide before, and it worked fine. Though, if you have it for too long, it can turn into mostly water after a while.

ok, there's a lot of misinformation here - not deliberate, i know - but nonetheless incorrect.

for ears, you can use a product called 'ear care' or similar, but never, NEVER use alcohol.
it's simply too strong for the newly forming skin cells, and causes more damage than it heals.
i suggest to all my clients a simple solution of 1/4 teaspoon sea salt in 1 full cup boiling water, cool, then use this mix.

never put silver into a fresh piercing.
silver is made up of several metals that the body is more likely to reject or react to, including nickel (nickel is in ALL silver).
the only acceptable metals are - 316L s/s, niobium, zircon, titanium and 14 carat gold or higher.

this is not good.
vodka has sugar in it, and sugar will just coat the jewelry with a sticky surface that will attract other dirt to stick.

hydrogen peroxide 3% solution is fine - but only if there is an obvious infection.
overuse of peroxide can result in delayed healing.

i hope this helps, if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

I don't recall my ears hurting the day after I had them pierced. They felt a little funny for a few hours after the piercing, but that was it. When I got the second piercings in my ears, it hurt more (the farther up you go, the more it hurts initially), and those piercings did bother me for about 24 hours.

When I got both piercings, I used alcohol to clean them. The first piercing was at 14 and the second at 18 - almost 30 and 26 years ago. I used to get terrible infections for quite a while before I discovered I was having a reaction to silver. (or is it nickel?) Even though my piercings are old, I only wear minimum of 14k gold. And for the past few years, I only wear the same studs and hoops all the time: sleeping, showering, everything. But both pairs are 14k gold so there is no problem.

You might want to check the type of metal used. Could be you might be having a reaction to it. I've known people who were allergic to both surgical steel and gold, so it is possible.

weird
I stayed inflamed with 18k gold and do to this day if I try & wear it, I healed with high quality silver

i guess I am abnormal
(big shock there  )

Ah, i took them out, because they got infected really bad.

The right one was so swollen when i tried to pull the back off of it, it actually pulled it back into my lobe, so i took them out completely.

Aobut how long should i wait til i get them peirced again?

I didnt get the professionally done before, so thats prolly my problem...

But how long will it take em to close? And how long should i wait before i get them done again?

Well..I know you just said you didnt them by a pro (which is stupid in itself...sorry) but you may just be allergic to metals in general. I cant have anything pierced. Not even my ears...I have tried every cleaning solution known to man and still they get infected...I had my belly done and I was on antibiotics for weeks to clear it up because my skin reacts badly with anysort of peircing regardless of material.

The thing is, after you get a piecing and it closes, you get scar tissue and you probably shouldnt pierce through that. Id wait a while...at least a few months before getting it done again. I havent worn earrings in years and the holes are still open and get infected.

I have my tongue done and my eyebrow already so i guess i dont have to worry about anything cuz ive had those for long ass time now

well if you have tow other things done then why were you dumb enough to let some moron with a needle and an ice cube do it?

Sorry, I just wanted to say how happy I am about my nipple piercing which I've had for a month now.

I know that's shameless self-aggrandising of my piercing, but I really like it... despite the intense burning nipple-twisting pain I did encounter.

How long till I can go swimming? It's just about summer here and getting sunnier and sunnier.

*sigh*
another amateur job.

one of the worst things you can do is take the jewelry out if there's an infection.
now you have no way of allowing the infection to drain out, and you risk developing an encapsulated infection in the ear (abcess).

if the holes are in the right place (as in placement is good) i suggest putting RINGS in and waiting for the infection to heal.
do this asap, before you have the chance to develop any bigger problems.
but go and buy rings of good quality, preferably surgical steel. do not use studs EVER in a new piercing - they seal the entry and exit holes and do not allow drainage.
the rings you use should be twice the diameter of the length of the piercing to allow room for swelling.
then clean the ears twice a day with a salt-water solution, and if there's an infection in there already, use hydrogen peroxide 3% twice a day after cleaning to help release any matter from inside.

swimming in clean salt water is fine from day one, just rinse with clean water after you get out.

swimming in pools, spas, etc., is a no-no for at least 8 weeks.

She's THE Queen Bitch Piercer, she recently re-pierced her own clit hood!
:D

this thread scares me... we won't even discuss what happened when i got my cartilage pierced

but let me ask w.queen:

what do you recommend for this situation:

my ears (lobes) were peirced so long ago that they have never closed up or healed over and i can slip an earring in whenever i want. The only time I ever have any problems is in the begining of summer - I'll get a little infection every once and awhile after too much time at the pool. should I be cleaning and wearing earrings occasionally to keep my old piercings clean even though I no longer care to wear earrings?

this depends on whether you want the holes to eventually close up or not.
if it doesn't bother you either way, then i would suggest cleaning inside the pierced holes at least once a month, using either a syringe with saline solution to push thro the holes, or by pushing thro a sterile, cleaned earring post.

the skin is not self-cleaning here, and anywhere where skin can shed, but not actually discard, skin cells, is a potential infection site.

if you want them to close, then you will need to stress the holes by putting in something that very slightly abrades the surface of the sinus channel, so that the wounds can stick together.
doing this can be painful, and will require cleaning twice daily of the outside of the holes until they are healed (and they may scar).

yes, i am a body piercer.

as for the "constant flow of puss and goop" - well, that shouldn't happen if you've been given the right info on how to care for your piercing.
i have never had a client have this happen that they didn't cause themselves by ignoring my aftercare instructions.

if you are considering getting anything else pierced, PM me and i will be more than happy to give you my aftercare guide by email to help.
