I can't believe the news junkies haven't already picked up on this story:
Is this guy (who is NOT of middle eastern descent according to later statements) just a lone, none to bright, nutcase or just an inept member of Al Qaeda?
I mean, striking a match on an airliner (in his seat, BTW) to light the fuse and he didn't expect anyone to notice? Maybe he wasn't too set on being a suicide bomber and wanted to be caught?
This episode along with other stories about security breaches and delays because of security problems just reinforces my opinion that the only way to be sure flights are safe is to have everyone check all belongings at the security check points -- especially including their clothes. Naked people don't wear sneakers filled with explosives or germs.

BOSTON, Dec. 23 — A passenger on an American Airlines jetliner from Paris to Miami tried to ignite an “improvised explosive” in his shoe Saturday, authorities said, but the crew and fellow passengers tackled and subdued him.
