I had another job interview today. In another town. To make sure that I wouldn't miss the bus, I went to the bus stop 1½ hour too early. I brought a notepad, so I could do a little writing while I was waiting for the bus. Which was a good idea, since it never came. After 51 minutes, I decided to call the information desk to find out if there was a bus going at all today. Oh, yes, no problem, there was a bus. At 2.45. Only thing was that if I took that one, I'd be ½ an hour late for the interview. I could ofcourse call them and inform them of this, but I had no cash left in my mobile phone. I'd have to go downtown and refill it.
Hurried downtown, bought a phone card, got on the bus, started recharging my card - THEN I discovered that I had bought the wrong kind of phone card. I had mistaken the operators. The card was useless. AND I had wasted 100:- on it. Clock was ticking, and I had to call the company and inform them that I would be late. I borrowed a mobile from a very nie man on the bus, and after 4 repeated efforts, I managed to reach them and explain my predicament.
They were understanding, albeit not happy, when I told them that I would be 30 minutes late. They explained that I would probably be more late than that, because the company wasn't inside the town itself, but 2 kilometers outside of town. They started explaining the road to me, but gave up almost immediately and told me to get a taxi. I was just counting my spare change when they changed their mind and said that they would send someone to the bus station to pick me up and drive me there.
While they waited for me, they let another applicant go ahead, so I had to wait for a while at the bus station before they came for me. For the first time in my life, I got to ride a cabriolet. It felt like riding a moped - a lot of wind in the hair, making me feel as if I was going to fall off in the curves! Too bad about the rain, though...
The interview went fine, anyway. I think I'd be great for the job. I only have to beat 43 other applicants.
At least I've made sure that I stand out in the crowd.
