Dumb question re: screen names

I did a FAQ search and got nothing.
Is there a way to change your screen name without losing your post history?

It has been done before, but you have to have a pretty compelling reason for wanting a name change. With fewer than 100 posts, however, your best bet would be to start over with a new username.

Yeah well, mine reminds me of my ex and I'm sick to my stomach about him today.
On another forum I used to post on, you could but no alts allowed, I think the opposite is true here.

Not really. As Eilan said, all you need to do is start over with a new screen name. You'd need a different email for that, but if you're a Gmail user, it's super easy to create a new account and then link it to your primary email account so you don't have to log in to multiple accounts. You'll get back to 85 posts in no time at all (you could easily do it in a day or two if you wanted to).

Now you might actually have a shot at getting yours changed if you really want to because you joined in 2009 and have so many posts. PM one of the site's owners with your polite request if you seriously want a different name.

PM one of the admin. - ask them to close your account, cancel it out, all your previous posts should be removed (but no guarantee - so don't quote me) then you can open a new account, with your old email. I again I don't guarantee this, it's just a suggestion.

But if you're not set on the name, then just change the profile, and get a dummy email address.

We're not "supposed" to have alts., but believe me, there are many that do, and many that admit it openly. There are some that do and misuse them to harass folks to.

In very rare instances (like there is a threat to someone's safety), accounts can be "froggied" (the posts will be replaced with a ), but that's not what we're talking about here.

What we are talking about--changing the member's name and retaining the posts--can be done, but there also has to be a good reason for it and such a history that it'd really suck to start over. We're talking about being a member for YEARS and having 500+ posts, if not many thousands of posts. Would it be fair for me to ask to have my name changed? Yep. I've been a member for a long time, have tons of posts, and I've never asked the admins for a thing in all of my time here. The OP, and people with similar histories, need to start over, rather than adding to/interfering with the admins' long lists of important things to do because they have typer's remorse, though.

I get that. I was just clarifying the difference between your suggestion and asking for a name to be changed because it'd probably be a rude awakening to have all of your posts deleted when you actually want to keep your posts and just change your name.

There's plenty of cock-free fluff to go around, too - just look in the Playground!

If you feel like you might want a different name at this point or down the road, now's definitely the time to do it. Even when an established member is granted a name change, it can be confusing, so you might as well start off with a name you really like.

If you've already "made enemies", why not just start over. It's not like anyone would catch on unless you start every post with "I used to be Loverskitten" (and even then, the majority of us wouldn't care).
