Well, we have the sex covered, and possibly the rock ’n roll too. This thread is what are Lit’s thoughts or policies on drugs and alcohol?

I ask simply to know what to change in my work. There are going to be scenes of (predominantly) young adults (all 18 and over) who may indulge from time to time in drug use. It will be in my liberal views just ‘minor’ stuff, this won’t be Trainspotting, but alcohol will be imbibed and some lines of cocaine will be snorted and the odd joint smoked – and yes, the characters will inhale.

This will not glorify the whole culture of drug taking and characters will not be raging drunks or alcoholics nor will they be Walter White’s. I just in my stories want to portray a realistic setting, and whether we like it or not, recreational, illegal drugs are a part of many people’s lives.

I’ve composed a quick note for Lauren about this.

For my story I’m working on I’ve got this as a disclaimer:

This story features consensual incest sex between sister and brother and their parents with their offspring. All are fully consenting adults over 18 years of age. There is some limited drug use and alcohol use but nothing that glorifies either. The sister snorts a line of cocaine and feels ill. It makes her horny, but also makes her dry and this causes frustration and upset and leads to her cuddling her brother for comfort. She doesn’t take the drug again.

Would this sort of thing be ok? Or would this be a definite ‘No go’ area for Literotica?

Drug use is ok (Side note; even mentioning underage drug use is ok). Hope this helps.

I don't think you need the disclaimer at all. If you feel like you must have one, then you can reduce it to one sentence: "Full family incest with some drugs and alcohol."

I agree with EON and Notwise: your disclaimer reveals too much. Few if any readers will be bothered by drug use, especially if it's not excessive. Disclaimers are to warn readers about erotic topics that may trigger or squick them, and that's not the case here. If you want to be careful and use a disclaimer, just say "drug use."

I've never had a problem in putting drugs or alcohol in stories submitted here. I don't do it much, though.

And it's Laurel, not Lauren.

That's an awful lot of plot to reveal in the disclaimer, though. Wouldn't "drug use" suffice?

Bless you. I’ve had a great laugh at that. I was trying to kill two birds with one stone. So when submitting it the site owner will know what to expect.

Perhaps I should ‘tone’ it down a bit.

I’ve noticed that in many ‘about the book’ parts in novels it pretty much gives you the plot from A-Z.

Thank you for the advice.

Alcohol use is a part of life. So, yes, as far as I'm concerned, it's a part of stories. For many people, drugs are also a part of life. But that's a bit outside my knowledge. I have quite enough trouble with the drugs dispensed by the girls and boys in white coats. :) Laurel seems to agree with me - on the former anyway.

It does seem to be a hot-button issue for a small group of readers. I've seen people get really outraged by stories where somebody used marijuana without being somehow punished for it.

I've never submitted to I/T so can't comment on that aspect.

In most of my stories casual alcohol use by adults is rife.

In one of my stories, a male and female character buy cocaine and engage in a cocaine-enhanced sex session, including application of the coke to genitals, etc. In another, my main character wanders through an orgy where she sees and describes rampant drug use (she's an off-duty cop looking for someone, not there to participate nor arrest people, finds her target and leaves).

None of the stories include drug or alcohol use in my disclaimer. I do mention in the one story about violence and death
This story portrays scenes of violence and death that some readers might find uncomfortable.
it gets a bit gruesome but the cocaine users don't die...

I haven't seen that. That's amazing.

Things like that always shake up my understanding of the social consensus. I suppose I should be glad to have a reminder. But, yeah, amazing.

After several years of contributing stories and participating in these forums here it never ceases to amaze me that readers come to this erotic story website to indulge their various kinks, some of which are quite odd, yet get completely freaked out by something like pot use. Human beings are weird.

Sex, drugs and alcohol? Lol, my only warning would be if there was too much sex.

I have a warning on one of my stories that it 'contains British English, bisexual behaviour, and lots of booze' - the last I only included after relating true parts of the story and some Americans being shocked by that part!

Mostly I just liked the alliteration.

I haven't seen those kind of comments in a while, but I remember the vehemence. It was like they got all their drug ed from Reefer Madness type PSAs.

Some folk don't have a lot of room for nuance.

I've never had a comment on a story about inclusion of drugs. I don't include it very often, though.
