We got up this morning and decided to ride in to work. The forecast was for hot weather but that's southern Florida for you.
We walked out to the bike and we were sweating by the time we reached the bike. At 0600 it was 80° and the sun wasn't even up. Oh well you gotta ride.
The ride in was warm and humid but okay. No traffic to speak of and we were able to maintain a nice speed all the way in.
This afternoon we walked out to the bike and almost dropped when we hit the garage. Talk about hot. It was hard to even breath. I looked at my wife and we didn't have to talk it over. We ditched the heavy leathers. They were put in the cargo box along with our scrub tops. (We were both wearing Tank Tops under our scrubs.)
We climbed aboard and fired up the bike. Both of us were wearing our scrub pants, boots, gloves, helmets, Tank Tops and glasses. Off we went.
Normally the roads we were riding on were rolling at 40 MPH. Today they were rolling at a grand total of maybe ten miles an hour. Talk about hot. We were sitting over an engine putting out a lot of heat while riding over roads that had been soaking up the sunlight all day. You could see the heat coming off the roads. We could feel the sweat pouring down our bodies.
A cop I know pulled up alongside us early in the ride and told me I was either hardcore or nuts. I asked him why I had to be only one of the above. He shook his head and rolled up his window.
About halfway home I noticed the people in the cars near us staring at us. I didn't know or understand why. On the other hand I didn't care why, I just wanted them to get the hell out of the way so I could roll and get some air movement.
Finally at 2000 we arrived at home. We parked the bike and slogged towards the trailer with our boots making those funny squishing noises from the sweat that had collected in them. The sweat was dripping off me as I unlocked the door and stepped inside. Oh it felt good to be inside. I turned to look at my wife and understood why people had been staring. She looked like she had entered a wet T-Shirt contest. Her tank top was soaked through and almost transparent.
When I wandered into the living room and looked at the thermometer I was surprised. The inside of the trailer felt absolutely cold and it was reading 90°. Then again the humidity inside was all of 40%. Outside on the other hand it was reading 95° with a 90% humidity.
When I checked the history for the day I saw it had reached a balmy 100.8° with a humidity of 95%.
No wonder we were a bit uncomfortable on our ride home today.
I'm thinking our riding will be limited to early in the morning but we shall see.
Oh, right now at 2249 it's reading 89° outside with a humidity of 88%.
