I was happy to see the conversation about moderating re-opened. Then sorry to see that it, too, was shut down. I just wanted to ask a question, genuine. I don't know the answer and would rather just ask than research @ToPleaseHim's posts.

Do we read "Stop fucking Republicans" as "Stop the fucking Republicans" or "Stop fucking the Republicans?" Like I said, genuine question. I think I saw two opposing interpretations.

Hope I get an answer before this is shut down!

No, because the focus of the comment is on the moderator and the moderator's appearance of neutrality, not the substance of the views.

It's disturbing to me that the Site is shutting down threads that want to discuss how the Site operates. It's a perfectly legitimate subject matter, and in those particular threads most of the views stated were reasonable and stated in a civil matter. The AH Moderator unilaterally decided that the threads had "run their course," but that's obviously wrong, because that executive decision clearly left a lot of forum contributors dissatisfied and feeling like they were denied the opportunity to fully discuss an relevant issue. "This thread has run its course" seems like a wrong-headed basis for shutting a thread down, and I don't see it in the forum guidelines.

It doesn't say that a thread may shut down because comments become repetitive. There's nothing about the moderator's discretion. It would be nice to see this clarified, either here or in the rules.
Here's what the Guidelines say about what happens when Forum users close their Literotica accounts:

• If you decide to have your Close Your Literotica Account, we will do our best to remove your posts before removing the account, but please be aware that once you’ve posted in the forum, those posts become part of the public internet and they may be quoted in any number of places. I would not have interpreted this to mean that the entire thread started by a member whose account closes vanishes.

At a minimum, that's a legitimate subject for discussion, isn't it?

"This thread has run its course" seems like a wrong-headed basis for shutting a thread down, and I don't see it in the forum guidelines.

I agree with that 100%, especially that this is now the THIRD thread (fourth including the original) to be opened wishing to continue the discussion. Obviously the discussion has NOT "run its course" at all. Far from it. I also agree 100% that this does not belong in the political forum because it is not about politics. It's about the conduct of moderators.

I do however have to give AH Mod some (actually a lot) of credit here because at least he (assuming he?) is transparent in his decisions and is willing to give a public judgement with explanation, which is far more than most moderators will do. I believe that AH Mod made an error here (not a huge one) and I disagree with it, but I do not expect a moderator to be perfect. I expect a moderator to be decent and fair and transparent. I cannot say that about the majority of mods who act like demigods who love to wield the authority but toss aside any responsibility that goes with it - and don't you dare ever question their decisions no matter how reckless and errant they may be. At the least you will be insulted by them if you do, and at worst you will be punished. It's called corruption and power abuse and the admin (Laurel) DOES NOT CARE proven by the fact that she has no problem stepping in on occasion and modding just as badly.

I agree, too, that while I'm concerned about the AH Mod's decision, I'm not THAT concerned. The moderator provides some explanation, even if I don't find it satisfying.

The common thread running through the grumblings you get in this forum from authors is about transparency and consistency. Most people don't get too worked up about what the rules are, but they want them to be clear and to be consistently enforced. That's true whether it's about moderation itself, or the consequence of closing threads, or the right to write sequels, or the rules relating to under-18, noncon, and fanfiction.

I couldn't agree more! I've been called on the carpet a couple of times recently for "testing the limits." It's true. That's exactly was what I was doing, and said so, because the limits weren't at all clear. They still aren't as one cartoon showing semi nudity was removed. Still don't know how much "semi" is allowed. But what's wrong with testing the limits to get some clarity?

Yeah. I've had a couple moved instead of being shut down. Not sure why. @AH_Mod did step in and explain one of the moves, but not the other(s?).

I guess the difference between Literotica (or virtually any similar site / mailing list / forum) and the imperfect union of the USA is that the Republicans (and their opponents) still operate within a nominal democracy.
