Douglas Adams fans?

It is 42...

When I first discovered and read him, I was pretty enthralled with him. That was some time ago.

Neat website addition.

we're clearly all dorks here

wow - you wouldn't think it, but topic was covered already! i was asking about where to buy the meaning of liff and somebody posted this url. i still have it in my favs! but i'm sure some newcomers needed it, so thanks anyhoo!! ^_^

As much as I love reading online, there's still something completely irresistable about a real book. I actually bought a copy of "The Meaning of Liff" last summer. I was visiting my friend who just happens to own a used bookstore and found it tucked away on a little shelf in the corner. Needless to say, I snapped it up! It's really cute -- very small with a nice black cover. It was perfect for work that summer because I was a lifeguard so I'd always have little breaks when I could read . . . but any books with real storylines sucked me in too much and I wouldn't want to go back on deck!

Thanks for the link, though. If I ever misplace my copy and have a sudden Liff craving, I'll know where to get a fix!

so true. nothing like the feel and smell of a real book!

They have been replaying the original dramatisation on the BBC, and then started a version of one of the later trilogy in five parts.
Cracking good stuff!

And if you ever read anything about his personal life the stories about being drunk in Swizerland are outstandingly visual and funny.

I completely agree with that. As much as I like his fiction, I think I like Adam's personal non-fiction even better. What an amazing storyteller! And what a neat man. He would have been such a fascinating person to know in real life.

I knew Literotica was cool before. But I am in now in awe of its ULTRAcoolness. Anywhere where Douglas Adams is mentioned in a BDSM forum has to rock my world. :p

and anyone in the medeival fantasy writing bus
(dragonlance , forgotten realms, doom...)

I've noticed that alot of people into BDSM are also very geeky.

I LOVE IT !!

Robert jordan lost me somewhere around the 8th or 9th book when he was taking forever to write the next one and they were filled with aes sedai(sp?) politics and pms.

Have you ever read "Last chance to see" by douglas adams. it chronicals his travels to far off places to visit endangered animals, it's pretty awesome.

Coincidentally, Adams has also written that "Last Chance To See" was his favourite of all the books he published, I believe

I first heard Hitch-hikers Guide on the BBC - yes, it was originally a radio series and I was enthralled. (I was young at the time:( )

I found so much in his books and inspiration to write myself.

On that day Iheard he died - at only 42? - I cried and still feel weepy at it.

So cruel to take such a sardoic and playful humourist from us.

My favourite?

Marvin the Robot.

I've seen it! It's rubbish!

*flaunts RJ name* I am always thrilled when someone comments on that! I think an appropriate motto for the WoT series is: it's the journey, not the destination :D

Yes, judging by the Sci-fi thread, there a LOT of nerdy BDSMers. Coincidence? *ponder*

You have to love Marvin, but, of course, he's a paranoid android, not a robot.
(Damn, too uber geeky!) ;)

Yes, yes you are. But that's okay. We like science fiction geeks here! :)
