Must everything be a reality? or a semblance of reality?

Does everything have to be a documentary?

Can't you just let something go, and enjoy the story instead of whether the cinematography was on point, or if it was "real"?

For christ's sake people, let go for a moment.

We live reality, we don't need to boggle our free time with more harsh clarity.

you know what I mean? I don't need every little fucking thing dissected to prove it's reality in order to enjoy it

I'm sleepydrunk and rambling. *sigh* how are you?

Although the unexamined life is not worth living sometimes ignorance is bliss! :D

I agree with that too.

I am not ignorant, I examine everything. But when it comes to entertainment, I don't need to dissect it to enjoy it, you know? Just because I know something isn't real, doesn't mean I can't go to a simpler place inside myself and just enjoy the fantasy of it, to lose myself in the entertainment. ya know?

What are you talking about? The FANTASTIC FOUR are my next door neighbors.

Whoops, there goes Invisible Girl again. I wish stretchy dude would keep his hands to himself.

Im fine, and if you are refering to "reality" TV there is no such thing. I am guessing you saw something that bugged you. Wanna give specifics?

Okay. What happened? You were watching "Happy Days" and someone said, "They didn't do that in the 50s"?

nah it's just everything that has to do with entertainment, like one thing is better than the other. A movie, because it is spelled out to be just a story, is okay to be enjoyed if the cinemotography and the acting is superb, but a fucking tv show isn't supposed to be enjoyed because it isn't the "real deal". Who the fuck cares. I'm tired of being judged by wannabe entertainment critics because I enjoy something, because I can move beyond the reality of it.

I'm just not cool enough. Forgive me for enjoying foreign film and american idol.

someone tuck me in, I really need a nap.

verrisimilitude!

although I didn't spell it correctly, it means the willing suspension of disbelief. Some people fancy themselves too cool to do it.

verisimilitudic, that would be my title if I didn't fancy macaroni so much.

I can forgive the foriegn films

Not so sure about American Idol. *Shudders*

All decent critics put things into perspective. Read them with perspective.

bah! their perpectives don't leave any room for any other perspectives especially those with versimilitude.

I think I just like using that word.

that said, you're right, and how could I not read them with perspective. That's the point of my whole thread, my perspective.

I get so lost in movies like Lord of the Rings...its so wonderful...than the huge downer comes walking into the movie theatre parking lot to find my truck and feel the crushing boredom of real life set in....

In order to be a critic of both you must appreciate both. No way can you compare American Idol to Foriegn Films.

You wouldn't trust an avid fan of wrestling to critique an opera, nor should you trust an opera critic to write about wrestling! Each is equally viable and entertaining to their audience, that does not make one audience better than another, just different.

and goddamnit I like both!!! or all four, wait three. Goddamnit you know I'm tired, and now you're making me count.

wait, what was the question?

I know what you mean, perkmistress. ;)

I have found myself toning down my own criticisms of things like movies and television to deal with only the blindingly bad things that ruined it for me.

A perfect for isntance would ahve been the "Lord of the Rings" movie. I've been a huge fan of the books sicne I was a kid and it was obvious that they didn't adhere to the books closely in a few things. Now, I could have gotten all FanBoy and bashed the movie, but I didn't. The problems I had were relatively minor and they didn't detract from the fact that the movie was masterfully done in so many ways.

I think it's a matter of not letting the bad have more weight than it deserves.
