Here in Tennessee, Legislation is trying to pass a bill where teachers and other educators cannot talk to children in school about being homosexual or even say the word gay. The bill got passed by a subcommittee today.

"Christian activists who considered gays an abomination forced a measure through the school board forbidding the discussion of homosexuality in the district's public schools"

Here's an article in Rolling Stone on what happened in Minnesota in a very similar situation. Haven't read anything else on this particular topic so I can't independently vouch for the content. It's a pretty horrific story, though.

by making an issue of sexuality and creating taboo is the very source of homosexual behavior. the second we know we arent supposed to do something, we either want to do it or want to know why. some are so deeply rebellious towards the social norms that they would take a path of excess just to prove a point. at some level it is all a choice, but when it comes to a stranger telling me what is an abomination and what is not, i want to be the abomination they speak of, because the more i try the more i realize it is rebellion that drives many of my desires.

Whatever works for you.

You have to love Tennessee

Its the same state where they actually passed a law that no county or city could pass any laws forbidding discrimination against transgendered people.

What is amazing is then you get people jumping all over you when you call this kind of religious person a moron or something, or make disparaging remarks about their intelligence. Folks, you can play nice with this kind of person all you want, but it won't change their minds...this is up there with the GOP in Texas wanting to pass a law forbidding school curricula focusing on critical thinking, because it challenges "long held beliefs" and 'what parents teach', i.e creationism and the like...

I know a 55yr old attorney who was in a small town in Tennessee when she transitioned at 53 (ages may be a few yrs different).

Her colleagues refused to work to with her. She had been with the firm as a partner for years. Her church members shunned. She was ostracized in the town. She had to sell her house, sell her partnership and move to a larger city, such as Nashville.

I still have not heard a word from my Russian trans friend.
