Don't Fear the Reaper

The last time someone asked this question was shortly before Mensa got sick and disappeared from the board. :(

He answered the thread with a post about death watching him from the corner of the room, waiting for him. I think he saw death coming for him, I really do. He knew.

As for me, I didn't think I was afraid until I faced the possibility of cancer. I think I am afraid of the potential pain and suffering before death, but not of death itself.

i don't fear death anymore...but i'm sure as fuck not ready for it yet

I'm not afraid of death, just afraid of the potential situation that will get me there.

What she said

It's weird. Fear of dying has been the driving force behind most of human kinds greatest inventions and yet few people actually seem to be afraid of it.

I'm probably more familiar with the actual act of dying than most people still breathing, but I'm not afraid of it. I don't fear death, the circumstances that will lead to it or whatever may come after.

But I don't WANT to die. I want to stick around as long as possible. I will kick and scream right up to that moment when you know there's just no choice, Mortality is a fucked up thing if you think about it too much.

Sunnybunny, I'm surprised nobody's posted "I Will Not Stop For Death" in here yet.

Like I said, I vastly prefer the alternative, so I'm not dwelling on the dying part. Of course, ask me again in another 30 years and we'll see how I fele then. ;)

I used to fear it dreadfully, but don't anymore. Much like Caly, my belief and faith have me ready whenever it's time.

Death is but a door.

This is of course no excuse for shoving anyone through it.

I thank you.

Odd to relate, but Christianity has been demonstrated to increase death anxiety.

As to the question of fearing death goes.. absoloutely not, with having of past, present and yet to dance with it many times in future. Death is prominent with the cycles of lifes and isnt an ending, merely a new beginning in steps to what is beyond. Many fear what they do not understand, yet others relish in new changes with challenges and a new dance yet to learn.

PS to be at peace with death is one of the essentials to peace in life

I prefer this one.

"Death be not proud, though some have called thee"

DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee, 5
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell, 10
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.
~John Donne

You don't see me dying all over the place.

They'll have to kill me before I die.

- Yellowbeard.

Oops, I fucked up. The correct title is "Because I Could Not Stop for Death."

Hey stranger!:) :)

No fear, but I'm sure not ready to go.

I like these:

Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

+++

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I've been thinking about something alot lately, and this seems as good a place as any to ask for opinions. I hope thats okay, Sunny.

It is said that in Heaven there is no need, angst or pain, that we will have no humanly desires. It just makes me wonder what Heaven will be like, what will we do all the time if there is nothing that we need or desire?

Howdy stranger back atcha miss intrigued ( grins n tips hat )

The biblical heaven that you speak of to be blunt is a creation of a religion which took many such concepts from pagan faiths. As well selling the concept of heaven to gain members with of course using the idea of hell to keep them in line. Using bright promises to lure and fear to keep the flock controlled as they wished them. To be in a place with so much propoganda'd pro's would quite simply be beyond boring and in that and more it is quite far fetched.. to say the least.

To learn more of this is to look at the world in time lines of what the biblical portrays. What historians portray and with perusing new/ old truths being unveiled all the time. Once the dogma is put aside and the "pearly gates" concept unveiled and the truth of this heaven concept put to light, things are still far better than they seem.

Heaven and hell for what they represent, also can be taken as states of existence, including those here upon earth. Hellish scenarios easily being seen in the worst of moments when ones very being seems to be facing most unpleaseant upheaval. Yet the heavenly moments are their to, to share in love, joy, gentleness, passions, serenity.. within each of these and more with heart(s) alighted.

Heaven upon earth is what we make it in how we treat others with understanding, compassion and freely giving what is the best of ourselves with it being shared in return. Perhaps one of the best examples in this is unconditional love which every one has experienced at least once. No matter the trials nor terrors faced in life each has faced or have yet to face.. its still there, real and beautifully so.. love is its own heaven upon earth and beyond.

( grins with a warm smile and silent hearts blessings to all ) :)
