Righto. So. First time buying “hanks”. Right. I need a yarn spinner, right. Another lesson.

I’m starting my next project today, basic but pretty - the Sophie Shawl. I think. I think I got the right yarn? I asked for help at my LYS (local yarn store) but we had to make some substitutions.
I love your choice! Sophie Scarf and Shawl have been very popular among my knitter friends. Hope you enjoy this project 🩷

Oh yarn gurus! I've tried knitting and crocheting a couple of times but have never stuck with it. I seem to get lost after the most basic parts... are there any good free YouTube videos for learning either?

People definitely do it. I wish I had something to recommend. I learned to knit long before YouTube existed. lmao

I just started and TikTok has been such a useful resource, but I followed a YouTube tutorial and just dove in.

I did a bunch of gauge tests beforehand, practicing continental knitting (versus English style knitting, like I started out doing) and getting my tension mostly right, but I’m still struggling 🥲

I would say there’s no bad place to start as long as you’re alright restarting a gazillion times 🤪

Tension is always hard....
Because it's impossible to be the same every time and to be the same as someone else... IMO

The red heart granny square yarn taught me a lot about my tension and consistency....
I was trying to make a granny square basket for a friend .... Or I would have given up on that craziness long before the basket was as far as it is....
And no. It's not completely done maybe 50% ??

Well… I know I said I was going to make the Sophie Shawl but I was able to stop by a local yarn store on the way home and I sort of picked up all the yarn I need for the Halibut Sweater. I want to try my hand at colour work!!

Not me/not my photo/found on Pinterest and Ravelry and everywhere else so I think it’s safe to use

😌

I went with a nice blue, although I wanted to try and replicate this as much as I could. They’re spinning the yarn for me now, I believe it’s a wool and silk blend, and I think I should be able to pick it up in a couple days, maybe early next week 😍

Wow. That's fantastic!
I'm in awe of you enthusiastic projects....

I'll be over here making granny squares in my comfort corner.... 😂 Lol

If I’m not challenged I get so bored 🫣 it’s a good motivator to try new things but sticking with a singular hobby is challenging 🫠
