What qualities make up a dominant person? And I'm not speaking in the BDSM fashion, I mean a dominant personality.

Someone told me I was too dominant for him the other day, and it got me wondering what exactly that was. Just because I won't let a man treat me like I should be licking his feet makes me dominant? I thought that just made me have some self- esteem.

Your thoughts?

What's wrong with being a strong, intelligent, woman? Maybe some men find it threatening to their poor fragile egos, but I find it very attractive!

Nothing, in my view. I was just wondering if having strong convictions and not straying from them made a person dominant. I've looked it up in about 12 dictionaries, and none of the definitions really hits on the personality aspect.

Hence, the thread, cause we all know, if you need to know something, *someone* at Lit will know it.

I wouldn't call it dominant to have strong convictions and to stick by them. Independent and free thinking would seem to be more appropriate. IMHO.:D

if you were old I would say your are the guy we talk often of when we say : a wise old man once says...

cant be you, you are not old, are you his son?

Fuck, I"m told I choose dominant men! I would also like t oknow that traits. I think my pals are great guys and that there is nothing dominant about them.

:rose:

I am a very assertive person and yes, there are times that I can be a bit controlling. Ya know, if you want something done right...???

Is this what you mean?

:)
Perhaps your friend was born a century or two too late, if women are not supposed to have characteristics of strength, intelligence and an ability to say what they think.

What?? I'm not a wise old man??? How about, can I be, a slightly demented, middle aged guy??

I am not sure if we are talking here a dominate person or a dominating person.

These are two seperate types of people.

Dominant personalities know the difference between being aggressive and assertive and when to use each one.

That's what I'm trying to find out, MissT. And I know what you mean - I like to have things done right.

A dominant person. Not dominating.

Thanks for the thoughts Mia. I'm taking aggressive to mean going after something you want with determination, and assertive as standing up for yourself. Sound about right?

It's called independance, not dominance....I dunno.

I'm not getting involved in another who should be the boss thread.

Been here done this.

Now show me your feet Cleo.

Hush up KS. It's no longer a turn-on now that I know you only want to see my feet. ;)

And it's not who should be the boss, btw. I'm just wondering if there's a balance to be had, because I like my men stronger than I am, but still able to make me feel in control.

There are various ideas of what is perceived as being dominant:

You could be very direct about what you want.

You could appear to be trying to make all the decisions in a given situation.

You could be very vocal about your opinion.

It could be as subtle as choosing to be the one driving each time you go out.

Who the fuck really knows what one peron's view is verus another. The only way to find out is to ask that person what they meant.
