Today it seems I scored an own goal.

I had submitted a tale to sci-fi/fantasy category, and well... It didn't get too much interest, it wasn't a good fit. I had second thoughts and decided to edit it to erotic horror...

Well, the edit got rejected and at the same time, the original got rejected too

I hadn't changed anything except the category.

Anyone else had this happen?

I think a published story can be pulled if, for instance, someone reports it for breaking a Lit rule. I get the impression too that the overworked admin folk get pissed off if we mess them around with edits and re-edits, which is understandable. None of these may apply to your situation though

This is the only edit I've ever submitted, so I don't think it's too many

In retrospect I think it probably did break a rule, so I cut that bit and it was no loss. It might end up being for the best but I'm sad about the lost comments.

I have a vague feeling that when a story is taken down its metadata disappears too (obviously, it's not visible because the story is not there); but if the story gets reinstated, so too does the history.

You need to make sure you are responding to the rejection notice, which will be on your CP. Don't submit your fixes as a new story, submit them as changes to the rejected story.

Yeah, I am not sure reposting or editing is a good idea. I have seen many people posting some horror story with an edit.

The two times I had stories approved for contests then had to resubmit due to spelling errors I found, they did something. One time the story went live the afternoon before the contest instead of midnight. The other time it sat with a pending status for many, many days.

I cannot find fault with the site. After 20 plus years running this site I am surprised they even look at the stories anymore. Some one could have a 10,000 word story that is just the word 'penis' over and over again and I would approve it if I was them.

It's up, in its new category with my edits intact, unfortunately the original is gone forever, along with votes/comments. It was a technical issue with the site that hardly ever happens. I'm special

Did you put - EDIT at the end of the title? And a note to Laurel about why? They will not allow two stories by the same author in two different categories.

Yes, I was paranoid about the content, it is a horror story after all, Zeb x I made some changes just in case, and I don't think the story has suffered for them.
