Should I become one?

I hate seeing this dog chained out in the cold. He, or she, appears to be a boxer, and not at all physically equipped for this weather.

I assume you've called ASPCA, animal control, the police, etc.?

Of course you should!

But, just before you do...

...poison the dog's owners, too.

This is not L.A. or anything close, Rory. We have no ASPCA, neither do we have animal control. I do not live near a town so the only police I could call would be the county sheriff's office or the state police detachment (neither of which are closer than 20 miles). Even in a 'people emergency', a 30-45 minute response time would be considered outstanding. So...I may be nappin a dog later tonight.

It's about CYA, not about whether or not any of those services would or could help.

If you're going to dognap and are later called to task for it, saying you contacted the authorities and then acted when it became clear they would be unable to help the dog before it froze might give you a little leverage.

I never thought of it that way. Thank you, I'll consider doing that.

I'm assuming the dog is near where you live. You will have to find it a home far away. Sucks for you but good luck.

I have a friend who does rescues. But I should probably tell her the dog is hot.

Wow, I really did not expect lit to be the place one could reliably turn to for sound dognapping advice. You people are full of surprises! Poor cold dog :(

She wants to nap him because he's cold and being mistreated. She wants to help him.

yeah, call the fucking county sheriff.

and if you do try to dognap just be prepared for the fact that the dog may be cold and unhappy, but that doesn't mean it'll be a willing participant. i mean, does it even know you?

Yes, I know. I was being genuine. I meant I was pleasantly surprised. For a place where a lot of the threads are about jizz and/or Obama, we sure do manage to hit on a lot of niche topics, too. I love lit! Laurel is the queen of my heart.

Ah, forgive me I misunderstood.

Have you spoken to the owner? Here, the RSPCA will often tell a complainant to speak to the owner of the animal first.

No, but you really should complain to the authorities.

You cannot take the law into your own hands and government reserves the right to theft...

Please do something to help, before kidnapping, of course. It needs your help.
