involve making banners or decorative type flags? I am looking for info Re: materials, design, price, length of time etc.. involved in having 1 custom made. Want one made for our Relay for Life Team in April.

If you look in..

The local yellow/ whitepages/ directory for a canvas shop, most should be able to do all that for you and give you a price for either materials or a finished product. Ring around, make enquiries :)

have tried that thinking it was the most logical route ... they have asked to see a copy of the design and what I wanted for materials..as that will make up the price..lol and they are supposed to be the experts.. ..maybe they are used to dealing with companies who know exactly what they want or need.. I don't have an exact design in mind just the team name.. and would need something weatherproof as it poured the entire time last year.

What size would it have to be?
So it's for outside use? (waterproof)
How professional does it have to look?
Are you stuck with design features like a certain type (font) and logo's and such?
Does it have to be printed in full colour, or is one colour or black and white (even) okay?
Would you mind doing some of the work yourself if that would save you a lot of money?
What budget do you have (about) anyway?

Those are all questions that you should ask yourself before you start looking around anyway.

Check with your local softdrink distributors (sounds odd, I know) and explain that you want a parade style banner (right? the long ones held by several folks) with your Relay for Life team name on it. Our Pepsi distributer here will sometimes donate these banners to folks as one corner is filled with the Pepsi logo. If you can handle that, it could be your best and most economical route. As you're in a much much larger city (probably more in Boston than in my whole state), they may charge or not produce them at all, but that's one option.

Another would be to look up a custom sign shop or a place like Kinko's or other print shop if you don't want to create the design yourself. However, having them provide/create the design will add to the cost of the banner. I know the Kinko's here makes all sizes of banners and flags and we have a few custom sign shops that do the same on all sorts of materials. Could get nifty car magnets as well to promote your team before the fact :)
