So, after today will all the political threads disappear? I'm just so tired of all of them cluttering up the board. After almost two years of mud slinging and name calling and whatever, will we finally be done, at least for three years?

Just tired of it all. Sorry.

You could move to China where politics is what the people in charge say it is and differences of opinion are not allowed.

Annoyance and anger are among the prices we have to pay for our freedom. I regard that as a small one.

But even the smallest annoyance, like a berry thorn, superates after a while and begins to endanger the body. I think this body politic could use a break for a while. At least this body could.

I think its just the beginning.

The economy is bad and getting worse. If Obama is elected the expectations people have may overwhelm him and the government's resources; so there may be some serious anger when things dont pan out.

If the Republicans take a serious beating the conservative base may revolt against the moderates RINOs. Tonight will tell the story.

But on a porn board?

The election ends... and then the complaining begins...

Hey, you get what you pay for. Wait, we didn't pay for this...yet!

Yes...I feel like I have been run through the wash and hung out to dry on a cold windy day.

:(

There will be residual banter for a bit, more if the results are too close to call, and we have to wait to determine the "winner."

I don't mind the debates, in fact I thrive on healthy, intelligent, respectful discussion. There were times I was hanging on to the edge, fighting in order not to be sucked deeper into the maelstrom of disrespectful, ignorant arguments.

But the truth is, I would rather see this type of passion than the apathy in which the voting population of this country seems to have been mired for so long. If the ugly battles are the price we pay for that passion, I can handle it. I have the right and the free will to just not be involved in the fray if it gets to be too much for me, which at times it did.

Amen!

People ought to be glad there's such an interest in politics rather than the apathy that has plagued this country for so damn long.

It is the very definition of "patriotic" to be interested in what's going on with our leaders, and to want to discuss it.

To do otherwise is to invite disaster.

Naaah.

There are black women out there who believe Obama is gonna pay their rent, buy their groceries, and keep the electric turned on. They REALLY believe it will happen.

When it doesnt happen they are gonna be livid with rage.

This was posted while I was writing the above, so...

What makes people on a porn board any different than others? We are a group of ordinary people who happen to enjoy smut. :) We still have regular lives and because we feel so comfortable expressing ourselves here, with others who (theoretically) accept us as we are, the political threads are a natural outlet for another of the things about which many of us are passionate.

We share many experiences here, politics being one. I don't find that odd at all.

But, I will also admit that at times, the discussions became too much for me. It was those times I simply stayed away from them, until I felt I could safely enter again.

Jesus H. Christ! What is more political and polarizing than sex?

I echo Sweetness and Cloudy.

For example, DP and I have been jousting on the issues for months. But I am so glad that we have BOTH posted to the "I voted!" thread.

Let your voice be heard, even if I disagree with what it is saying.

Am I tired of the poly threads? Yeah. My activity in them has dropped off considerably.

But I am so glad to see so much passion in all of us.

That's right!
We disagree passionately, be we won't try to kill each other if we ever meet in person.

Fuck no! the biggest argument would be over who gets to buy the first round.

And THAT is what makes this country great.

I hope the crap stops.
Truly because I have had enough of making a post and having someone that has an issue with someone that posts in the thread or what the thread content is about (which is NOT political in anyway) suddenly gets sidetracked by someone having a shitty time because of their political issues.
Yeah I have had enough.

If the discussions were usually intelligent, that would be one thing but too many of them seemed to degenerate into "Proof by Intimidation" or "Proof by volume" implying that if you can be louder and more belligerent, you are obviously right. Bleagh! Let there be peace and quiet for while.

Oh, and more sex, of course.

Whoever wins will have to try to run the country for everyone, not just those who voted that party's ticket.

Whoever wins will have a hard task ahead of them to restore the US's faith in itself, and far harder, to restore the world's faith in the US as a guardian of peace; a beacon of democracy and a place where anyone can better themselves and their family.

As JFK once said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". That should be true for all US citizens, whoever ends up in the White House.

This election has been divisive. Healing the wounds will take time.

Og

I'm not surprised at the division in the U.S. The neo-conservatives and their fellow travelers have been concentrating on widening and exacerbating these divisions for over thirty years.

This election simply reflects that. Hopefully, this is the dying gasp of that policy.

There was an interesting discussion on NPR about the current generation - 30 and under - using the internet more and TV less. The prevailing opinion is that the slanderous tactics of the right will become less effective as more and more people can debunk their bogus claims by going to factcheck.org and similar sites.

There is also talk of Obama soliciting comments via email on solutions to the problems we're going to have to deal with. This would seem to be a good way to keep the voters involved. Rather than looking for ways to divide the country, he's going to be looking for ways we can all pull together towards meeting common goals. I know it sounds corny, but it just might work.

So, the discussions will continue, but, hopefully, in a more positive manner.

Not a chance.

After the result, will come the inquest. No matter who wins, there will be a bunch of very unhappy people. I might not be around much for that.

Maybe it's just me, but you don't have to get involved with the mud slinging that's been going on. There is an ignore button that you can make use of, if it gets that bad.

I enjoy discussing politics and discussing issues. There have been a number of things that I've disagreed with people on. But, as far as I can tell, I've never tried to force my views on someone and I've never tried to tell them that their views are bullshit.

There are people on here that I like and respect. Yet our views are extremely different on how things should be done. It doesn't mean I think they're idiots or I think they're dirt or that their fucking evil. People choose to treat other people that way when they get frustrated that someone doesn't come around to their way of thinking and that is THEIR choice.

There's always going to be mud slinging and name calling, no matter where you go. It's just the way people are, especially on a message board. But it hasn't pushed me away.

Find some common ground, keep out of things that are getting ugly, and you can still enjoy your time here.

:)

Yeah I have had enough.

Some people like to debate. I'll cop to this, although I don't claim to be good at it. But there are those people who, if you say vanilla is your favourite ice cream, will try to convince you that chocolate is better. That's the way it is, unfortunately, and there's no getting around it.

Probably not...

I know it's going to take DAYS for the adrenalin to drain out of my system! And if Cal prop 8 gets passed I will develop Tourettes, I swear.

one of the people on a co-writing project flounced off yesterday. I got this sad little email this morning from one of the others, saying; "What's the problem?" I said "election nerves," and get a reply saying; "THAT makes sense!'
