Not unheard of. In the SF world created by Lois McMaster Bujold, there were things called "uterine replicators"--and people could choose to have their kid gestate in one of those, or they could carry them the old-fashioned way.

As for me, by the time I got to the end of my pregnancies, I thought as long as people brought me stuff to read, and my mate spelled me on occasion so I could stretch my muscles and get out, I would be perfectly happy sitting on an egg.
