i own a '72 chevy 3 speed pick up...i have a portable 8' long smoker that i can pull behind my '72 chevy 3 speed pick up...i have two more grills in the back yard that serve different purposes...

for years i cooked on wood exclusively...mesquite or oak...preferably wood that i cut myself with my trusty, manly chain saw...charcoal was for pussies and yuppies (pretty much the same thing in my manly opinion). once in a while in an emergency i'd use charcoal if it was kingsford and definitely not the match light type...

bar-b-q'n, smokin', grillin', whatever you call it...it's a manly endeavo and, by god there are rules...

the problem...a friend gave me a used gas grill and i love it...i have some yard bird cooking on it as i type...i cooked on it a lot, and i mean a whole lot of lot last summer because i live in a fairly small cabin and cooking heats it up...i don't use a/c so cooking outdoors is great...the gas grill is quick and easy and i've justified it by rationalizing that i cook with gas indoors and it's not much different...

so tell me men, keepers of the fire, suppliers of seared flesh..does this make me less of a man....

No way, especially if you have occasion(s) to use more than one of those grills at a time, i.e.- 4th of July.

I've got a gas grill that I use when I'm at home for the 3 of us, but when it's more than that, I break out the 55 gallon drum pit, for the serious shit. The gas grill is great also when teh oven is full, and you need to heat up corn, or beans, etc.

hey, come on....i'm thinkin' about coming out of the closet here and i need a little solidarity...

thanks lobito...always knew you were a manly sort of man..

well by god, that's ok by me as long as they use a good bar-b-q sauce...

you are all pussies and will burn in hell:mad:

Wow..... someone is suffering from protein deficiency.

unclej..... I don't think your masculinity is determined by whether you cook with wood, charcoal or gas. However, I am seriously concerned about anyone who lives in the great state of Texas.... WITHOUT airconditioning.....

:D

A gas grill is OK for just heating something up (like a microwave). Real bar-b-cueing takes place on your original equipment.

well, i'm starting to feel better about the gas grill and believe me, for real cookin' the big pit gets fired up with some south texas mesquite....

i know texan, you're not the first to worry about the a/c issue..i haven't used it for many years at home or in my car...i love the heat, hate the cold...my house is situated totally under a canopy of oaks so a few fans and i'm a happy camper...
