Does the Editor finder on the website actually work?

I've sent out probably 20+ requests for an editor, and not gotten a reply from anyone. Nothing. Not even a "Hey, yeah, can't do it," nada.

I'm starting to wonder if it's actually sending anything out at all?

Either way, definitely in need of an editor. My usual, NoneTheWiser has unfortunately had to take a sabbatical, and so I need a replacement.

Loving Wives / Romance - you can look at my list of titles to get an idea of what I write.

Longer stories - what I need edited right now is 28k, and the next one is shaping up to be almost 70k. So yeah. Big uns.

Help?

If you ask me, no.

Better would be to look at the blue sticky thread at the top of the forum page entitled "available to edit" which is updated at the beginning of each month. Best to try at the beginning of the month, because available editors go quickly.

Either that or post a request in a new thread here, looking for an editor as you noted in your post.

Just a heads up, Loving Wives is not a popular subject matter. Finding an editor okay with the subject might be difficult.

I agree that it seems like your best bet is to go through this forum. Writers I've heard from privately have all had the same experience of getting no or few responses from the Editor Finder.

But I find it hard to believe that Loving Wives would be an unpopular subject to edit. Unpopular as reading material should not necessarily mean unpopular to edit. Personally, I would rather edit stories that are tamer than what I read when here for fun. I edit to hone my skills so I can eventually call editing my career; I don't want to 'react' to the subject to the point of being distracted from seeing dangling modifiers and incorrect punctuation. I'm sure there are others like me.
(The OP's stories would be right up my alley except for the length. I'm already juggling three manuscripts that are all longer than my original parameters.)

I think it probably depends on the editor and what they hope to accomplish (for those like me, it's professional practice. For others, it's getting a first look at their favorite kind of story). My point is: don't be discouraged by the above comment; you'll have no trouble finding an interested editor if you post here with the necessary details. When I've responded to calls for an editor for stories like yours, I've more often than not been beaten to the punch by several other interested editors.

Good luck with your search!
