I never thought this was a question we'd have to deal with, but thanks to the good people at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this has actually come up.

When inducting groups that have had changing membership, the Hall of Fame generally acknowledges all members that have contributed to the meaningful part of its legacy. For example, Pete Best is not included as a member of The Beatles, but the Rolling Stones inductees include not just the 5 original members, but also Mick Taylor and Ron Wood (correctly in my opinion).

Usually these calls are pretty obvious, but I think the Hall of Fame really fucked up by choosing to induct Sammy Hagar along with the 4 original members of Van Halen. True, the Hagar-era VH was as commercially successful as the Roth version was, but how well has that stuff held up 15-20 years later? Seems to me that the period where Van Halen was interesting artistically (i.e. when Eddie still gave a shit) was almost entirely 1984 and before.

But of course, one may disagree (and I'm thinking people younger than me just might), which is why there's a poll.

After this latest batch of unductees I've given up all faith in the Rock Hall. It's become a joke. Now it's whoever had a top 10 song 30 years ago gets in.

Sammy is a talent in his own right and should deserve to be inducted. His time with VH just adds to his achievements.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a much bigger DLR fan than I am a Sammy fan, but I think the rules apply correctly.

Van Halen continued to be a commercial success after Roth left, so you have to induct them all.

Here's an even more distasteful proposition: Including Michael McDonald as a member of the Doobie Bros.
I mean, you HAVE to, but God, I wish you didn't.

Ah yes, how could they overlook such great rock anthems as I Can't Drive 55 or that eternal song You're Love is Driving Me Crazy. Classics.

He's no better than A Flock of Seagulls. Who don't belong in the Hall either, I might add. Just in case some of you actually think they do.

That's funny....I gave up on it when they built the hall of fame in Ohio.

What exactly has he achieved?

VH deserves it, Hagar doesn't.

That's one way to look at it. But just selling records doesn't get you in the Hall of Fame. The Doobie Brothers are a good example here, because they aren't in. Neither is Chicago, which sold an amazing number of albums in the 1970s--I'd bet only Led Zeppelin sold more.

I wonder if all 43 of the Ramones drummers are in? I should check that.

Cleveland is where the term Rock and Roll originated. It belongs there.

No, that's at Wright-Patterson Air Force base. Which is also in Ohio.

I don't understand your point. Yes, he has had commercial/top 40 success -which is an achievement whether you are a fan of his music or not. He is atalented musician/singer/songwriter that has ground out some fantastic rock that never rcvd any airtime. He has also written and produced for other recording artists. Flock of Seagulls was little more than a one-hit wonder. Hagar has been a critical and financial success in the industry for the better part of three decades now.

No. That is in Washington DC. Ohio is good for boring roads and great roller coasters ..... and Ohio State.....

I thought the controversy was because he hadn't had the hit over 25 years ago...

Making money should not translate to being put in a hall of fame.
Example: Mark McGwire.

That sounds completely subjective with no objective data.
Objectively, he has been one of the most influential broadcasters in the history of radio. He has changed the medium in multiple ways. He re-invented talk radio. He has attracted more attention from both the government and private industry than any other radio personality to date.
There is nothing jesterish about his contributions.
You sound like a dumb cunt.
Are you Luxey's sister?
