Does posting on literotica void your ability to get it published?

So I post some short stories on literotica and that's all well and good. I am working on a novella that I would like to get published once completed. I would love to be able to publish it on literotica also, to get feedback (wouldn't be that concerned about possible loss of sales from doing this, not worried about that). BUT would that mean I could not get it published by a publisher? I read something about self-publishing and how doing that meant you no longer could sell first-publishing rights and would not get it published at some later date. I am not looking to self publish for money, just post on literotica for feedback and then get it actually published by an e-publisher later.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but thanks!

Some e-book publishers will take works already published on Literotica (and some of these won't even specify that the works have to come off of Literotica). Everything I have posted to Literotica is also available in some form in the marketplace.

It depends very much on where you want to publish. The majority of epublishers will not accept works that have already been posted online, or will only accept them once you have published other works with them. If you want to be sure of being able to sell your work, don't post. Advertise for a beta reader or crit partner instead.

There's a comprehensive list of epubs here -- have a look through at their submission criteria and decide for yourself: http://www.eroticromancepublishers.com/p/publishers.html

A member called Macro7 posted a story about a place called Praxton, and his novel about the same characters in the same place has since been published in paperback - so the definitive answer to your question is NO.

What? Pointing to my own 467 stories posted here that are also available in the market (including in paperback) wasn't "definitive" enough for you?

That said, I don't think the answer to the OP is "no." I think it's "maybe." I think there are far more publishers that don't want the material to be and/or have been published anywhere else before they publish it. Especially for free.

Ignore me. I got mixed up with "yes" and "no" (it's amazing that I'm trusted with sharp objects).

Sr71, nobody said "no." They said "yes" and "maybe." :p

(To be fair, you appear to be involved with most of the publishers you list on your sig -- that would give you some extra veto power as to whether you can keep your stories on Lit, wouldn't it? Most people approaching an epub won't have that).

Great_Brit didn't just say "no." Great_Brit said "NO"--and also said it "definitively." (Look again)

I'm connected with the two publishers I identify, yes. But you'd find other works I have posted to Lit. under other penn names published by other e-publishers I haven't identified.

E-publishing is surprisingly open to lots of options. Whenever I've made an assumption of how they would respond as print publishers respond, they also surprise me by being more open and accommodating.
