Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking insisted that god was nonexistent.

What do you think? I say that religion is a crutch for the weak minded.

If religion is the opiate of the masses, then Christianity is it's cyanide~ Tom Robbins

God as some omnipotent father figure? Hell no or else he would be reported to DCYF for what happens to his "children"

But God as a universal power source that can be tapped and used to achieve the things we want to, yes.

God in the narrow, anthropomorphized view of most religions I consider to be a form of over-bloated ego-gratification with a side of power trip.

However, I am certain of the existence of a power far greater than humanity (in both magnitude and versatility) which utterly baffles our poor, human brains' attempts to describe. The impersonal Tao of the Chinese doesn't cut it, as this God has an interest in the very minute details of human life, but SHe (intentional capitalization error to emphasize multi-genderal attributes) does not demand our worship, our service, or any particular semantics and rituals of us.

I don't endorse a religious approach, and I abhor faith, but experience has taught me that such a power exists and that SHe will, at times, choose to interact with us in our day to day lives, as will lesser, intermediary powers which might be typified by the mythologically inclined as angels, spirits and demons. I don't pretend to define them, as I know only what my own experience and perception informs me of.

So, that's where I stand on this subject.

Atheism, by the way, is just as lazy as religion; both seem quite comfortable assuming they have the answers already, and just need to manipulate the data to ratify their own conclusions. So, now that I've pissed off 99% of the population, let the hate mail fly. :)_

Neither of those great thinkers insisted that God is non-existent. They just claim that there is no reason to believe that God exists.

Believing in a God, or a power greater than us, is a good thing. If not for this God-like entity, man would look to Government for the answers, instead of asking God to help them look into themselves for the answers.

God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent - it says so right here on the label. If you have a mind capable of believing all three of these attributes simultaneously, I have a wonderful bargain for you. No checks, please. Cash and in small bills.

[Robert Heinlein, Notebooks of Lazarus Long]

Believing in a God, or a power grater tan us, is a good thing. If not for this God-like entity, man would look to Government for the answers, instead of asking God to help them look into themselves for the answers.

Theology is never any help; it is searching in a dark cellar at midnight for a black cat that isn't there.

[Robert A. Heinlein, JOB: A Comedy of Justice]

But the believed presence of the cat keeps the mice away.

Belief in an ultimate metaphysical power is human nature.

Most scientists and physicists have concluded that in all likelihood, there is no god.

Why would you need God's help to look into yourself for answers?

All scientists and physicists that are not frauds have concluded that it is irrelevant to our understanding of the physical world, whether or not there is a god.

A whole lot of them still believe in one though.

Name some notable scientists whom believed.

God, or whatever you wish to describe this thing as, only exists in the minds of its believers.

Descartes

Stephen Hawking maybe... Einstein said no such thing

in fact in an interview , Einstein said this

"Unquestionably! No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life"

Is your "God" a kindly being who loves you, and all mankind?

I believe God exists; however, separating the idea of God and humankind's response to that idea (religion), I find the validity of the complete truthfulness of any specific religion debatable.

If he exists, I assure you that god is displeased with the greed, corruption, and injustices of mankind, which explains the natural disasters and mass animal deaths.

The very darkest hours of mankind lie ahead.

Nope, my God is a completely indifferent and uncaring bastard.. but definitely loves us... just doesnt do hand outs or favours

I see, so it is OK then for him to kill humndreds of thousands of people at a time then?

Or on a quiet day, just under three thousand?
