Not sure about that. The singer had a deep voice and when I play my guitar to them, I have to tune down a key to match up.

Let me go googlize them.

loved them

I saw them a couple times in the late 80's early 90's, once when the opened for UB-40. Great band that should have been bigger. Green Thoughts is a great album.

Thanks for the reminder, I'll pull it out tonight.

These are the ones I mean

Smithereens

These are the ones from Smith College. LOL

Smithereens

I could be a fan of the latter if they all came to my flat and sang with me.... along with a few other things.... :)

Yes. They are so easy to play. I can play all their songs. They are simple, but who says a song has to be complicated to be good?

LOL

I know the ones you mean, lol, I'm old enough to remember them quite well (and the Smiths for that matter *sigh*)

Just thought it'd crack you up to know there was another group. ;)

Now, being a Smithie myself...I possibly could round up some of my fellow alumna for a visit to your flat...Riff, did you have anything specific in mind...

Song-wise of course. ;)

Any tune will do. :)

Something happy. Something that makes me wish I'd learned to tap dance.

:)

And then the oral sex. LOL

I saw them live once back in the day. They were opening for UB40, which was a rather... odd... pairing (although I loved both bands). The thing I loved about them (past tense only because I haven't listened to them in years) was the simplicity that riff talked about. They wrote such hook-laden power-pop songs that it seemed like you had heard them 1,000 times before; even on your very first listen, you were humming along.

Very much. Good college pop. Nothing too heavy, simple beats, chords, predictable guitar solos in a pleasant and accomodating way.

Nothing wrong with that. :)

How about "Let the Sunshine In" ?

And then *of course* the oral sex

*sheesh* Riff -- we're Smithies after all -- you don't have to even say it! :p

LOL, I saw them with UB40 as well...wait -- was that YOU at the concert?!?

I saw them back in the 80's. Excellent concert.

Listen to me, everything will work out fine
there's a time in your life when you're losing your
mind
just come with me something different this time.

I don't want to know where you intend to go
Everything changes, but nothing is stronger than
love.

Listen to me, everybody wins some day
and in time you will find every dog has his day
nothing should matter or stand in your way.

I don't want to know where you intend to go

I could kick myself in the ass for this- but they had a mini-LP (4 songs) called "Beauty & Sadness."

Fucking sold it when I was broke. I have it recorded on cassette tape somewhere.

I did that once or twice - a long time ago - sold some albums because I needed money. Back in the late 70's I actually sold the very first Doors album - they were out of style then, no one cared about them - the big resurgence and interest didn't happen till later. I could kick myself for that one... *sigh*

I still own over 1,000 vinyl LPs - I'll never get rid of them - some are quite valuable collectors items.

BTW - try http://www.half.com - great place to buy CDs and sometimes even cassettes/vinyl - you might find it there.

I think I saw them and Irvine Meadows Ampitheater.

riff, get your ass over to the New Music Impressions thread. It contains nekkid pictures of Kim and Kelly Deal, caught in flagrante delicto.

<crossing fingers behind my back>

I just whipped out that cd abouta week ago.

Saw them 1 time too. Good show (from what I can remember now...) I remember the lil blonde a bit better then the show...
