Does ANYONE know this song?

Came out sometime between 1995 and 1998, from a band that SOUNDS like Tonic or Better than Ezra (alternative rockish) and was actually very popular at least in my area, for a good three months before vanishing. I don't remember all the lyrics, but there was something in there about

"I saw you crying... your mother saw your new tattoo"

and the chorus was

"I'll give you everything I own, my body and my soul, flesh and bone..."

Actually a very very good song, and every lyrics search I've tried has completely failed. I know I'm not crazy, as a few of my friends remember the song, but not the title or artist, and it's been driving us nuts for the past couple of years. There's a bit of a bet riding on this, so I'm appealing to the masses for help.

ETA: At this point, I'll take random guesses as to title and artist. :S I'm going to run out of deadline, and the lyric searches are still coming up dead.

Is this the one? It's by 'N Sync. Probablly mid '90s although I'm not sure.

Yeah, after I posted it I went back and say you said 'alternative rockish' and figured it probablly wasn't the one.

Edited to add: Just for the record, I don't even own that song, just checking with Google for lyrics. (I wouldn't want anyone to think I was a boyband fan. )

Thanks though... I'm going insane and running out of time, and I KNOW that I did NOT imagine this song (which is the current consensus, that we all imagined the song because I walked around singing it so much!)

No Ogg, that wasn't it, but thanks for trying. I did find this, which may help: this is something I wrote down one day in my creative writing class when I had the song stuck in my head and a poem due for a grade. I can't remember whether it was a alternate version of the lyrics or a tweak of the lyrics I had stuck in my head. It's been eight years or so since then, so the details are fuzzy, but I do know that THIS poem fits almost EXACTLY into the tune I'm stuck with.
