Does anyone know anything about this Northern Alliance?

On the face of it they're our allies in this campaign against terrorism. But is it because they are against the same enemy as we are that they are automatically one of the good guys.

Or are they just as bad and in time to come will themselves be harbouring terrorism within the Afghan borders.

In which case we will then be seeking to destroy them.

Cool i love gearhead girls. I probably spent nearly 20 hours working on my damn Pontiac this summer. That was just on the whole timing chaing, timing chain cover, oil pump, oil pan, oil pick up tube, water pump, harmonic balancer plus a butt load of sensors.

My car now has a new timing chain cover, timing chain, cam sprocket, crank sprocket, oil pump, water pump, crank position sensor, cam position senor, oil pump sending unit and a few extra dents from getting pissed and beating the thing. Although as indestructable as my car is i think it hurt me more then I hurt it.

I swear Buick 3800 engines with distributorless ignition and the balance shaft must be the most complicated push rod engines on earth.

Two things heard on NPR today about the Northern Alliance.

1. During the war with the Soviet Union, the recently assassinated leader of the Northern Alliance turned a downed Soviet helicopter into a bus. He used it to transport his men and weapons all over a particular valley in Afghanistan. The Soviets made inroads into this valley and he abandoned the bus. The top brass from the Soviet military all crowded into the bus to examine it (recoiling in horror at his audacity I assume) and he promptly detonated the explosives packing the bus.

2. Look at PC's listing of the middle ages restrictions (and I think they're worse than the middle ages) on women and children under the Taliban. NONE of those are being enforced in areas controlled by the Northern Alliance. The Northern Alliance maintains its Muslim heritage but not by abusing women and children.

This is also a tribal thing too, there are three main tribes in Afganistan, the Taliban almost all come fromm one tribe and the other two tribes make up the northern alliance.
