There's another thread in the "How To" section about raincoat theates and it got me thinking. Whenever I'm in the porno shop browsing for tapes I always see a steady stream of furtive looking guys going back and forth to the peep booth areas. They are obviously back there jerking off and I'm just wondering why they don't rent the tapes and beat off at home like everyone else.

I know many stores allow you to preview tapes before you purchase them but there are also a lot of unhappy bookstore employees who must mop up puddles of jizz left by guys who just want to get off in the store.

Are these people just too cheap to rent or buy a tape? Does it not concern them that strangers are watching them emerge from the back with their glasses foggy? It makes an otherwise pleasant and entertaining shopping excursion rather creepy.

Is there anyone here who will admit to doing this? What is the point of whacking off in the store when you can easily go home? Is there a logical reason for this that I'm just missing?

Of course some stores are sleazier than others. One time in St. Louis, me and several of my friends visited a porn shop in the middle of a strip club and massage parlor community. We basically stood around flirting with the girl behind the counter. I noticed that the same three or four guys kept going in and out of the back area, looking pointedly at us the whole time. After a while I asked the girl what was going on. She said that they had holes cut out of the walls of the booths and these guys were waiting for us to go back there and stick our dicks through them and vice versa. She said that by the end of the night there would be enough nut on the floor the fill a bucket. I'm guessing this is an extreme case.

Many other shops that I've been to are relatively high class and professional but they still have the booths in the back and guys still go back there to do who knows what. I can understand the rendesvous scenarios and the idea of the thrill of being caught. But still, shouldn't the average person be kind of repulsed by the idea of going into a public jerk off booth?

I went in one once. Once. A male friend of mine and I visited one as a kind of challenge. They wouldn't let us both into the same booth, which I thought was strange, and when I closed the door to my little chamber and looked around I was scared to sit down. Maybe I'm just being terribly naive but I always kind of thought of these shops as regular, legitimate businesses that average people visit to purchase porn. No big deal. I always assumed that if people wanted to have trysts or stick their dicks through knotholes in the walls then there were plenty of clubs and night spots for that type of activity.

I think of porn shops as benign places like any other kind of store. That's why I don't think twice about going in them.

Knowing that people are in the back jerking off doesn't bother me, I just think it's kind of odd. Sort of like sitting in the back of a liquor store and getting drunk instead of just going to the bar or to your house.

I worked in an adult bookstore in NYC in my early 20's. Was just a job really, sometimes interesting, sometimes clockwatching, like owrking in any store really. Was a very legit business, nothing particularly seedy about it other than it being a sex shop. No booths, occasionally a man would come in and ask if we did but no. Most customers were just pretty normal folks, seemed to be anyway, just looking for a video or a toy or whatever for fun. I have been to a different kind of peep booth a number of years back on a business trip. I think it was in Seattle. Or it could have been New York. Maybe Atlanta or Dallas. But anyway, I was serious, knee walking drunk.

This is an interesting thread/question. I can understand why these places existed 20 years ago - and yes, 20 years ago I have been in them! Probably been about that long since I was in one.

As has been said - with how cheap VCRs are - and how cheap Adult tapes are - not to mention DVD players and all... its hard to imagine why anyone would go to those places. I'd almost be tempted to say that if you had enough quarters to feed those machines you have enough money to buy a VCR and start your own porn collection.

So what else could be the reason for these places to still exist? Perhaps there is a homosexual element - being around other guys jerking off is a turn on? Nothing wrong with that if that's what you're into.
