Does a story have to be realistic to be good?

I feel like I have a decent ability to suspend disbelief. I read a bunch of the Sci/Fi/Fantasy stories here and enjoy quite a variety of subjects.
When I do have a problem regarding realism, is when it happens too fast and/or too obvious. For example, take a mom/son story. In the first paragraph or two, Junior trips and falls, scraping his (adult) knee. Dad call's mom over to kiss it and make it feel better and she ends up blowing the son, while dad watches. Son's dick is always bigger than dad's and works better too. Dad is always cucked.
I have read mom/son stories that were believable. There is some sort of drama that leads up to a situation. Dad isn't in the picture (death or cheating bastard). Eventually, one/both slip up and make an admission. The other says, 'really'? and then they are naked. it's the slow build up and mental exploration that makes it work for me.
It all depends on how the author plays out the story. When done well, most everything can be believable.

I think the popularity of Penthouse Forum letters (I'm showing my age) demonstrates that realism is not the be all and end all for eroticism. And the wide world of fetishes (tentacles, monsters, aliens, etc.) adds more support for the lack of realism requirement.

I probably don't belong here but as a reader I've read both; realistic and not so much. Love both. I like realistic romance and love stories, I like fantasy and tentacle stories. It just depends on my mood. I've even read a few where the characters were real, situation real, but the sex definitely wasn't and liked those, too.
