Yes it was actually, if not more so.

And yes I have watched the whole thing. Once they explained it, it did make sense. It did not however make it less annoying when it was done or even now when i watch it again. The difference now is that I understand why she did it.

It's supposed to be annoying, out-of-place, jarring. It's a maladaptive behavior. It's only when you find out what and why she's adapted it that you find out how heartbreaking it actually is.
