Doctor calls on medical professionals to warn patients of the dangers of this contemporary fad:

...Pubic hair [has] a purpose, providing cushion against friction that can cause skin abrasion and injury, protection from bacteria and other unwanted pathogens, and is the visible result of long awaited adolescent hormones, certainly nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. It is time to declare a truce in the war on pubic hair, and allow it to stay right where it belongs. We owe it to our patients to encourage them to let it be...

I oppose the removal simply because its more attractive and natural for there to be hair "down there" but I'm glad to see that there are medical arguments to be made as well.

Well that settles it....
I am growing out, and when it's long enough I will braid and bead it.
Pics to follow in approximately 6 months :D

I have to admit I don't like a bush that runs from the navel and looks like a bikini but I can see some sense in the decision of not complete shaving. However, if the woman likes the look of shaved I have no problem with that.

Thank goodness, guess I can go natural now.

Time to work on that 'buffer zone'. :D

Natural is awesome, I prefer there to be a natural spread of hair but kept short. Pubic hair is sexy but too much and it gets in the way of the right kind of friction..

What I don't understand is how pubic hair removal became the overwhelming norm so quickly.

From what I've read and my own observations, I would say that in 1989 almost no young women and certainly no young men did this outside of a few fetishists. By 1999, a majority of younger women were removing all or at least some ("landing strips," etc) with a minority of holdouts, though few males had joined the trend yet. By 2009 the absolute overwhelming majority of women under 30 and even many older women were completely bare and even a significant percentage of younger males were removing their genital hair.

In 1989 it was a "fetish" to be attracted to hairless genitals, by 2009 it was a "fetish" to be attracted to hairy ones.

Amazing change in just one generation. It happened so fast there was no societal debate or dialogue on the trend.

My lips automatically swell and my tongue automatically drips at the mere thought of warm, smooth, juicy woman-meat...

Renard I would challenge those numbers. I am a 30 year old woman, belong to two gyms in a college town. So I see plenty of women, age 20 to 40. I would say maybe a third are shaved bare. Certainly the numbers have grown in the last decade, but what has really grown is the perception of how common it is. You are right that the perception is that its the norm to be shaved, but that is not reality.

I don't know. How and when did women shaving their legs become the norm?

That's an interesting observation, but we've got no way of knowing if you're telling the truth. You could be an alt who's really a fat middle aged man from Pawtucket for all we know.

It would be interesting to hear from doctors who actually see a cross section of naked people as to what the real numbers are. There was a study I saw a while back, I will try to find a link to it.

I've read that growing numbers of young men are shaving their pubes too.

My last GF was in her 20s and wanted me to shave my pubic hair. I was like, "um, no."

I for one kind of like my pubes, especially when they turned out PINK after I died my white hair red last time. This time I used GrayMagic and they did come out Red.

As to the rest I would like to give it away to a needy ftm.

I don't like full on bush cuz it just looks messy to me... but I hate completely bare also.
