Do you vote for your own stories here?

My first story here at Literotica was just posted. I took the time to vote for it just as I vote for every story that I read here. And I was just wondering if it's presumptuous of me to vote it a 5, or even to vote for my own story at all? What do the rest of you do when it comes to voting for your own story, for other stories that you read here?

PS:

When You get feedback with a real e-mail to it, do you always reply, sometimes reply, or never reply?

DS

Funny thing about the Voting also...

The story that's posted now has 15 votes, but only 9 views, and the one pending has no votes, and 2 views. LOLOL Is that normal?

DS

I don't vote for my own stories. I think that kind of defeats the purpose since I am interested in what readers think of them.

I always respond to feedback when a reader leaves an address. It is frustrating to get positive feedback and not be able to thank someone. It is just as frustrating to get negative feedback and not be able to tell him to go fuck himself.

I also let e-mailers know when the new chapter of a story is posted as they are the most likely to read and vote on it.

The views and votes are updated at different times, I think. If I remember correctly views are updated daily while votes are instantly updated. You can have two or three views before a story is posted if you have been logging in to check your submissions.

Back in the days when I cared about votes, I always did. If I didn't think a story was worth a 5, I probably wouldn't have submitted it. DurtGurl's stuff is another story.

I always reply to EMail feedback. Unless, of course, it's from someone I definitely don't want to encourage. I eschew opportunities to play cyber grab-ass with strangers.

When it's a nice feedback I reply, but I don't bother with mean or crazy ones

I never bother to vote for my own stories. What for??

As far as feedback, I always respond to constructive feedback positive or negative. I never respond to guys who just want to stick their tongue up my ass... and there are quite a few for some reason :(

OK

Never voted for myself, but don't see why others shouldn't do so for themselves.

I always reply to all feedback regardless of content, as long as it isn't anon of course, which 60 percent or more seems to be.

Did vote on a story...cos it got "Oned" a few times when it was flying high so I wanted to redress the balance a bit...looking back on it I wouldn't give a damn these days...I'm too bloody used to a story getting smashed when it's on 4.8.

I reply to constructive feedback. Non constructive is normally from an anonymous idiot anyway. I even reply to people who write one line if they leave an address.

Most of my feedback is from women for some reason...can't work that one out as I write blackmail/nonconsent mainly...but hell ! The ladies seem to like it:D

Yes, I vote and like MG I wouldn't post a story if I didn't think it was good enough for a high mark. As for email, I'd like to say I answer them all, I should say that, it's the right thing to do after all, but the truth is, I'm so far behind I hate even opening my mailbox. Reminds me of Dirk Gently's refrigerator.

Oh and Lit updates votes immediately, but reads are only done once a day. That's why you can initially have more votes than hits.

OMG!

I woke up today to find my e-mail box jammed packed full of feedback. Close to thirty with all but two of them having return addresses, and only the annonymous ones having any down side to them if you don't count those that want to worship my cum filled genitals, marry me, or just become my toilet slave. LOL These correspondences are way too personal for me to even think of replying to, even though they all do seem to love my first story. So I'm still not too sure what to do here.

DS

PS: Almost 8,000 views now with 68 votes including mine averaging 4.15. Is that good, or not for a first story?

I don't vote, because I want to see what OTHER people think of my stories. What would be the point? There is this one thing, though, that's been lingering around with EXACTLY five votes for WEEKS now. I'm so tempted to log a vote just to get it on RADAR. But, what rating would I give? Arrgh arrgh arrgh. (Someone ELSE wanna vote for it?)

When I send someone feedback, it's because I found their story exceptional (hi jfinn!), and I assume others send feedback for the same reason. So, yes, I respond; if someone's gonna compliment me like that, I ought to at least say thank-you.

(Incidentally, DS, I'm gonna go read your stories now. :D)

Oh, at least 50 times. Doesn't everyone?

I'm kidding.

I usually vote a few weeks after it comes out. I don't check the stories themselves anymore for some gawdawful reason. Every other month or so, however, I'll look my work over and if I haven't voted on it yet, I will.

These days it doesn't matter to me anymore.

*shrugs*

Only one of my stories is posted so far...

So I'm not sure if that counts as stories, CWATSON, but I appreciate the input. As for the replying to my feedback, well I'm still debating that. Most of it is from people who think my character is really me, and who I am, and that's just not so. LOL For me writing is an outlet where I can release my sexual fantasies out into the breath of daylight, and give them a little airing out as it were.

68 votes is good for any story. Feedback is good. Both require effort from the reader, particularly feedback.

Only once have I voted for one of my stories. It was stuck on 9 votes so I voted to push it over the horizon so it got counted. Then it got bombed with ones.

Then it got bombed with ones.

Do many stories get bombarded by 1's? Is there a group of malcontents that do that here? Ah that would explain why my story never got over 4.4 in the voting percentage.

My comment

I haven't voted for my own story (only one so far), but I did see that I got royally screwed by some guy who said he jerked off like a bajillion times while reading it, then he gave it a 50%, what the hell is that? Isn't a bajillion worth at least the best vote? lol... oh man

If by "50%" you mean that little thermometer thing next to his public comment, don't worry about it. Those don't affect scores at all, and are only there for people leaving PC's to give a quick thumbs-up or thumbs-down. They're set to 50% by default, and most people don't seem to know that, so you can get lots of rave reviews where the thermometer is still at 50%.

The only votes that count are the Vote votes.

Must be nice

I'm not sure why but I have recieved very little feedback for any of my stories (I have four). I would like any kind of feedback for them. My first story got quite a few votes (56) but the other two were 20, 13 and 13. Few public comments either. Wow what are you guys doing right? Maybe it's just my genre.

Anywhooo..

As for voting for my own story, I did on my first, just cause, and then one was stuck at nine for a long time on another and I wanted to push it over the top, same as cwatson. I don't think there is anything wrong with being proud of your work and go ahead and vote for it!

replying to feedback

I often reply to non-anonymous feedback. If the comment is just a basic "I liked your story" I'm less likely than if they have a specific comment or insight they share with me. I do like to thank people for their feedback just because I really like recieving it.

Order in which I value feedback:
Public comments with names - telling everyone you like, or even dislike a story is pretty significant to me
Anonymous public comments
Feedback sent via e-mail - Very personal and always nice to get, especially when the feedback is positive but the votes have been somewhat more tepid
Voting scores - I like the little H's, and its nice to know how something is recieved overlal
Vote totals - more votes generally means more people finished it and had a strong opinion
Page Views - I've clicked on enough stories and only read the first paragraph or two not to give this too much weight.

I'm curious if others tend to place similar weights on things?

I may have voted for my first story. Now I care more about "accurate" response, though if I ever feel like I get lowballed by a troll or two I might try to compensate myself. I have nothing against voting for yourself.
