-have differing political persuasions? I have been pondering this recently and I think it may be better in the long way if partners have slightly opposing political viewpoints, not too far apart, but still separate and distinct. For example, if two people are both too flakey and liberal, then they will never accomplish much as neither will be able to bring the other down to reality when it is needed or provide much perspective and grounding for the other. This scenario reminds me of Mr. Mackey's head floating off when he got high in that one episode of South Park. Probably because many liberals are in my opinion naïve which is often described as “pie in the sky”. Two conservatives will be to hard on each other, too nagging and judgmental and not sympathetic enough for each other's faults and tribulations to get along well. This reminds me of those mean undersexed matrons that are unforgiving and pick at every mistake they can find and offer little condolences or apology for what they do to their partners.

So maybe its better to not be of the same political persuasion and have a different stand on the spectrum of ideology? Not too far so that they are always arguing, but maybe just a little to a moderate amount of separation on the left or right of one’s partner?

What do you think is better, do "birds of a feather fly together" or do "opposites attract"?

Your question assumes we agree with your character assasinations in the first place. Nagging? Judgmental? Not sympathetic? Pick at every mistake? What a wonderful opinion you have of conservative people. Luckily, it isn't accurate. I get along just fine with fellow conservatives, thank you.

I wholeheartedly agree.....

Knowing in advance that if your spouse votes it will nullify your vote would do wonders for our voter participation and the entire concept of representative government.

And besides, every marriage needs some political strife in addition to the normal day-to-day problems and stress.

Oh, this was intended to be slightly sarcastic:)

Settle down Cheyenne, I am mostly conservative myself.

I was just trying to be even handed in my fun poking at both sides of the political spectrum. Probably that little rant also just came from that many of the women in I have meet IRL (family most of all) are Bitches. To be fair many of them are liberal in affiliation politically and only oriented conservatively in their personal lives.

Basically, what I am trying to say is it good to have one side moderate the other's opinions, to balance their choices out with an opposing viewpoint?

I couldn't be seriously involved with a guy who didn't agree with me on the fundamentals. They don't have to be a carbon copy of me - in fact, that would be hellaboring - but we have to have common views on the big issues.

What she said (sorta) :).

Some issues I'm not going to budge on. I couldn't spend much time with someone who I disagreed strongly on those. Some pro-life, anti-environment, teach-creationism-in-schools girl will be shown the door without the friendly pat on the butt.

But I don't respect someone without opinions, and I don't mind if a number of them clash with mine. So long as she can talk intelligently and open-mindedly (is that a word?) about them, I'm fine.

I'm a nocturnal animal, God concentrates
On a young black man, who makes the niggaz speak a shake
The nighttime is busy, it's word to Aunt Kizzy
It's the time we get down, yo son, you know the sound
The flavas on the top with the rugged beat to back it
The night makes the aura and the J can't hack it
The way the moon dangles in the midnight sky
And the stars dance around, a yo, I think it's fly
Intensity, most rappers don't see it

Well James Carville and that Republican chick (who is like x25 times better looking than him) hate each other's political opinion but they seem to get along just fine the last time I heard. Both are rabidly partisan, but maybe with the both of them their kids will be that much better-off for getting both sides of the story so to say and obtain a more solid understanding of politics in particular and life in general for it all.

That's a PR thing-but I hate Begalia and Carville too(Press is my guy)-so yeah someone kinda close to the middle but leaning left and a little flakey. However, in the end they should say fuck it and enjoy the entertainment.

You mean Mary Matalin.

And I don't know how the hell she can stand him. Everything about him rubs me the wrong way, politically or otherwise.

I would offer my opinion on the original issue, but I've never really gone out with anyone whose views I've shared. Lusted after, maybe, but no relationships. :(

You base this idea on a flawed concept: that all people who lean to the left are flighty, irresponsible hippies, and all people who lean to the right are cruel, heartless stick-up-the-butts. Sorry, but stereotypes don't equal real life.

I believe the idea of "opposites attract" is false when it comes to the really important things. My political ideology says something about my deep-seated values, and I couldn't live my entire life with someone who didn't have at least similar values.

Liberals don't need a conservative partner to keep them from dancing around putting flowers in people's hair, and conservatives don't need a liberal partner to keep them from kicking puppies.

Well even if you were my political match, you still lose because you brought up "flawed concept" on a casual opinion thread.

I have worked as a campaign stragtigist on a few elections, and am lucky enough to know a large number of civel servents from all across the political specturm. The vast majority are very hard working folks trying to make a difference for the welfare of the community. The fact that I respect these men and women is on reason that I was so outraged by the former president's leagalistic defence of about getting blow jobs in the Oval Office.

If you leave out the extreams on both sides, you find very smart folks that just want a better world, country, state, comunity for thier children and grandchildren. Every one that I know could make a lot more money not being in politics, but chose to be there anyway.

My brother is a very liberal Democrat, and I am a fiscaly conservitive Republican. (I'm moderate to liberal on social issues.)We get along very well, and the debates are an important part of our relationship, they keep us respecting each other. Maddam Samuari is very close to the same opinion as I am (prolly a little more conservitve socaly than I am), but we have managed to raise daughters that are all over the map from Libertarian, to Christian Right. (They think for themselves, which was the goal.)

In direct answer to your question, I think as long as both parties are honest and of good will, that they will get along. But be prepared for debates.

And that makes her too smart for you, I see.

I haven't found a correlation between stating the obvious and intelligence.
I realize the fact that the question was based on a flawed concept was obvious, but not everyone probably caught that. Or cared. Like you, for example.

You didn't have a chance anyway, so don't let it ruin your evening.

Oh right, I forgot. You're into guys. Can I at least watch?

OK, I don't have a quip for that one but sure I'll let you know the next time JazzyJIM violently packs my fudge.

With nuts or without?

"fudge-packing"

Oh man, you're all gross! Thank god I'm not eating fudge brownies with peanuts in them or some other similar food right now. Too bad they don't have a little emoticon here I can use of a little smiley face hurling about a weeks worth of chili at the screen.

:cattail: <-- What the fuck would that be used for anyway? Who would go through the trouble of creating an emoticon that can be legitimately used only once every 37 years? lol

BTW, what's wrong with kicking puppies?

The real question would be: is the tube on the steak. Strawberry and a pasty vanilla topping would go great on that brownie. And yeah nuts are tasty.

no fudge zone
