Do you suppose that a gay man could technically have an Electra Complex? Do you think homosexuality might change the way one views there parents as gender models? Any thoughts here?

I'm not a Freudian, so I don't put much weight on the Electra Complex theory to begin with, but I do think that being gay is definitely going to cause one to see their parent's gender roles in a different light than a straight child would.

The flaw in the argument that gay men have an Electra Complex is that it would seem to suppose that gay sexuality was caused by feelings towards the male parent, and I think it's been pretty well disproven that homosexuality is a learned behavior.

Even in that case the biological theory still has arguments that a man could have such feelings for his father. In fact I think it argues more strongly for it.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your point, but it seems to me that if the complex is biologically based, then it would apply universally, and would have no specific relevance to gay men as a category.
