we miss you on here sweetie...
I sure hope you're having fun for me too ;) :)

Hey you ... how are you? Miss y'all too. I just haven't felt like being on Lit much. Nothing the matter - just been reading up on gardening in Florida (when I get a house I want to be able to grow some edible stuff) and giving my eyes a break from the computer. :rose:

I'd doing ok. I hung out in the pool for torture this week and then was at the bomb blast unit tuesday. I've got a a gamer with a special problem I'm trying to help solve before he gets rotated out. You'd have laughed I was the youngest person in the pool classes & those 80 year olds kicked my butt all week.

... The only healthy surfaces to cook on are cast iron, and Pyrex glass (but Pyrex glass needs a flame deflector for gas stovetop use).

I've decided I need new pots and pans ...

So ... what info do we need to cook on cast iron? Does it require more time to cook with? I saw the post about using cast iron and seasoning it first. That short article also said other than the first time, soap should never touch cast iron. So that begs the question, what do you clean it with?

Can Pyrex glass really be used on a stove? What about an electric stove?

Never used Pyrex on a gas stove so I don't know.....you can buy pre seasoned cast iron, probably best way to go for a noob to using it. It heats even holds heat longer. some stainless skillets are ok to, but should have copper sandwiched in between the bottom layers. Never ever wash seasoned cat iron or you have to season it all over again.....just wiope inside clean when done cooking with paper towel. heat it up well before using it the next time.....if anything sticks to it..scrape it out with a putty knife... while still warm.lol..

my mom took one of my pyrex cassarole dishes and tried to cook veggies on the electric stove...why I have no earthly clue... & it exploded.
I have the glass cooking pots & she could have used one of those because they were made for on the stove :(

If it's not Lodge made in Tenn. don't buy it...they also have some enamel coated cast iron for baking. The cheap Chinese cast iron you see is just that cheap........Lodge is the oldest maker and best maker of cast iron.

it does last....I have one of my Grandmothers Skillets....it has to be well over 50 years old.lol

*gasps* what's with the SUV AV?????

I scoped out the Lodge website. I'm surprised the cast iron is not more expensive. Those prices seem very reasonable to me...

Hope you're having a good weekend Bear! :)
