everyone says stuff in real life that they wish they could take back the instant they said it ... well its different on literotica you get a second chance to press send or delete :)

with that second chance do you still sometimes say stuff you regret on here ?

Once it's posted, you can't delete it. You can, however, edit it.

But yeah, sometimes I say stuff that on later reflection, is so incredibly stupid, I'm ashamed of myself. Or even just totally unlike me.

No...

I never delete a post once it's written. I work on the assumption that at the time of writing that's how I felt.

And anyway if I'm wrong I'm not short of critics to tell me so!

:D

Yes, there have been times i have pmed someone to apologize or explain an inane or bitchy post.

I don't usually change them unless it is a matter of immediate regret.

Even then, by the time you edit a post, half a dozen folks have read it!

And yes, p_p_man, it does seem you have a gathering of people who are very interested in keeping you on the straight and narrow path!

:D

To my surpirse I am siding with p_p_man on this issue. ONce I have typed the words I check them, usualy for my dreadful typos. I do my best to keep fomr unsulting people, but I wouldn't edit posts once I have hit the send button.

i agree that i wouldnt edit posts to take out the bits i didnt like ... especially because usually people have already posted and responded to what you've typed ... its too late :)

I usually edit for stupidity.

~posting on the wrong thread
~realizing I made absolutely no sense at all
~spelling or grammar

I don't edit out sentiments...once stated, they are out there. I do apologize if I realize in hindsight that I was being unreasonable.

I correct for spelling, but I am too new for an official post. Besides the last orginial idea I had was in 1975.

I very rarely edit. Once I have posted, that is usually it. I stand by what I post. If later I find I am wrong about something, I may take it to PMs to that person maybe comments were directed towards. Though, I can remember once editing a comment I posted that was very snide. I edited, as I realized I was just adding fuel to an already big fire and it wasn't worth it. And, MissT listed other reasons why I might edit a post.

I've regretted not just posts...but whole THREADS I've started, lol.

Live and learn. :D

There have been times I removed what I posted. It was needed.

I dont regret doing that.

I unintentionally hurt someone's feelings, so I went back and clarified it so she knew I had no ill-will towards her at all. That's the only thing I've ever taken back or edited for content.

Spelling is another matter.

i remember the post i think where marxist edited his post because he realized what he said wasnt what he meant

it was a sincere way to show that he didnt mean it ... so i guess in some circumstances editing can be good that way :)

and i always edit for spelling :)

Oh, hell yeah.

I've got to second Nasty on this one! I'll try to use my wacked sense of humor sometimes and when I go back later I realize how easily it could be taken out of context and seen as just RUDE!

Rhumb:eek:

I am the queen of posting while behaving badly. I've eaten more crow than anyone else on this board. Probably any three people on this board. That includes the entire Literotica bulletin board system, not just the General Board.

Ironically, I learned it from {censored} of all people. You can never take it back once you've said it. Editing it makes things worse in the long run. You say something you regret and then you edit down to a "." and all you get is a bunch of people outside of the discussion wondering what horrible things you said. Usually the assumption is worse than the reality.

When you've behaved badly on a BB someone will not only remember it, but they'll be more than happy to drag it out from the past. Why do you think certain people always hit the quote button when someone says something vicious? So the record will be there forever.

There is only one path to take when you've posted like an idiot. Admit that you were wrong. It helps to state clearly what you did that was wrong. Express your remorse over being such a dork to post that crap. Sincerely apologize for it. Then do your best not to do it again.

This works in real life, too. It's the only way to maintain anything like integrity and character when you've got a quick mouth and a quicker temper.

Take it from the Official Ass of the Board.

Do not try to make me feel better by glossing over my nasty penchant for chewing up people. It's not a cute habit and it's not something that's lovable. It's the way I am; I think I'm getting much better about not doing it, but I still do it.

I edit spelling errors when I catch them because they bug me. Other than that, if I said it, it stands. That isn't to say I don't regret some things. Sometimes I'm having an off day, and what I'm trying to say isn't coming through clearly. That's usually the biggest problem. I don't regret what I'm trying to say, I regret the way it's coming out. Sometimes the only sane thing to do is shut up and let it pass. There's no use kicking myself over it. Everyone has off days, and most people understand that. The ones that don't are probably so damned perfect I couldn't live up to their flawless expectations anyway.

I'll occassionaly go back to edited out glaring spelling errors. Otherwise I just keep typing whats on my mind without any kind of editing and it shows. My thoughts flow wildly and jump from point to point, but thats the way I am in real life so I ain't gonna change it.

i agree killermuffin ... what i've found is the if i want to back out of something the best way to do it is admit im wrong ... i dont try and talk my way out of it or say i didnt mean it that way ... just say i was wrong :) ... is hard to do somethings

At this time I've regretted bunches of stuff said or implied. People are often very silly here and my skin hasn't been that thick since I was about six. I'm oughtta here!
