*poll coming*

I'm wondering just how many smoke because this year two of my friends have received their smoking related death sentences. One is already gone and the other is in the hospital on oxygen with little hope of ever leaving the hospital.

Looking around, I see plenty of kids (college age to young teens) smoking and invariably their answers are, 'I have plenty of time to quit', or 'My doctor said I've got no damage.'

My friends were: 58 years old and 40 years old. That's not 'plenty of time' in my opinion.

Anyway: do you smoke: what and why?

I only smoke when I'm on fire

I used to smoke, both cigarettes and pot. Pot was harder to quit than smokes, but that might be because I gave up smokes first.

Yes, I smoke- cigarettes. Once in a great long while- cigar or two. I also use smokeless tobacco (snuff to some) although my coworkers say it doesn't count because I use the Skoal Bandits (little bags of tobacco).

I started with the chew when we moved into a new office building that was "NO FUCKING SMOKING" as opposed to the old building which was "no smoking if management is looking."

smoking dolp is overrated I should add, a hint of bra burning with a whole lot of submissive overtones with attitude. An unpleasant mix without the body behind it.

I used to smoke tobacco and, to be fair, I loved it :D

You have to work pretty damn hard to become addicted to that shite. It is all about image IMO, cos no-one smokes their first cigarette and thinks "hmm this tastes so good" and everyone coughs up on it too.

Glad I quit though, wasn't doing me any favours. I would encourage anyone who wants to, to quit. It's not that hard, the addiction is 99.99% mental - get your head straight and you'll find it easy as.

I still get high from time to time though :)

I am like a crack addict when it comes to cigarettes, I've smoked for about 30 years total, quit three times for more than 2 years, always get back into it.

Hopefully the next time I quit will be the last time.

Pussies should never lack for petting. Pet one today!

Yeah...this always puzzled me. Why keep doing it if it wasn't that pleasant the first time? When I was little and my grandparents were the coolest people on earth, they smoked and so I wanted to have a cigarette too. So my Grandpa gave me one and explained how to smoke. I tried, coughed, gagged, and decided maybe I didn't really want the rest of the cigarette after all. (I am pretty sure that was the intended effect.)

I've never felt the urge to give it another try, and I don't attribute that to me being smart or having the willpower to resist temptation or anything like that. Just never wanted to, so I didn't. If I'd wanted to smoke, I probably would have taken up smoking, even knowing that it's not really good for you.

But yeah, I don't get it.

For me, we'd just moved to a new area, I wanted to fit in and all the other kids smoked. No contest.

Never smoked.
Grew up with parents who smoked - both have quit in recent years.
Two brothers - one's a smoker, the other not.

I recently learned that I have a pea-sized nodule in my lung that is being watched.
Probably from asbestos or radon exposure, though.

Go figure.

Nope. Smoke gives me migraines. And I sing. The idea of fucking up my voice horrifies me more than any other death sentence.
