I'm curious how many authors respond to their feedback and how many readers receive responses after they have sent feedback...

I have sent several notes of feedback (with my name and email address) to authors and never once received a response. I have also received several emails of feedback and answered each one, thanking them, answering questions, and just generally getting to know them a little. The readers seem really pleased to get responses and many have stated that they are surprised because they usually don't get a response from authors.

Know where you're coming from Kadee. I used to send mail to the authors i enjoyed. Not one response, so I quit. If they are not interested enough to respond, even with "got your mail, thanks" then i'm not gonna waste my time. Authors: if you are not gonna respond to accolades or criticisms, why put "contact the author" or whatever??????
If a reader takes the time to send you his/her comments, they should at least be acknowledged. I have seen many authors "begging" for comments on their stories, yet when, as I said, I sent my comments, no response nada, nuttin. *shrugs* guess they just aren't interested in comments.

I gladly replied to every piece of (addressed) feedback I received after my story got posted last month. The feedback really meant a lot to me, and I was more than happy to thank everyone that took the time to write. If they asked any questions then I tried to answer those too, as well as generally trying to give something more than the basic "thank you for your interest" type response.

I always reply to feedback. And I hate when a email isn't given even if it's negative.

So do I.

But like I have said over and over and over again, mail can get lost, mail can be accidentally deleted, authors can be busy, some chose to not answer, some chose to not answer at certain times to do personal reasons.

The world won't end. Try to think of the fact that the Author is a person too. We all have reasons for what we do.

I've responded to all feedback Ive gotten as well. I belive it's the only right thing to do when someone has written you about your stories.

I respond to all feedback that provides an address. They took the time to write me, I figure it's the least I can do ;-)

I always respond to email. Sometimes it takes awhile. I get around that time of the month, I get bitchy and it does show through. I try to write only on Tango and stories like hers right around then. So the mail piles up for a while.

:)

I always respond to every e-mail I get. Hearing about my stories is always a thrill, and sending a quick thank you is the least an author can do.

Even if the message is negative (and some are) I always prefer that the writer provide an address to respond to. i got three negative messages in one week that I wanted to respond to. One was plain nasty and I wanted to tell the guy he was an asshole and why; the other was a misunderstanding on the reader's part and I wanted to explain his error so he wouldn't think I was a jackass; and the other was hilarious and deserved a hearty and friendly "fuck you!" in response. But no return address, so I couldn't keep the conversation going.

Writers need readers. That's the great thing about this site. And interaction between the two should be carried on by both.

Both Kadee and budman have never sent me an email, or you would have recieved a thank you note, we're not all the same you know.
