I re-gift. Especially those things I know are going to gather dust in my house, but someone else would really enjoy. Why keep something that doesn't really give you pleasure? Makes no sense to me. And it's always good to share.

I don't keep anything around that I don't use.
If I receive it and don't like it, it's without a doubt something I would never buy to give as a gift either.
Thus it all goes to charity.

It depends on the gift. Some things I'll re-gift and other things I won't.

Some things I have re-gifted:

A case of cheap assed wine. (Given to me by a patients father.) I gave it to my father who used it to clear the ice off his steps.

A slot car track and cars. I gave it to my ten year old nephew who loved it.

A pink Turtleneck. (Don't ask) I gave it to a co-worker who loved it.

If extended family gives one of us something more suited to the other, we've been known to swap. Also, my friends have no objections to me giving them something they've seen in my house and liked - as long as I'm not attached to it, like my HUGE fuckoff Luis Royo framed print - because right now, we're broker than broke.

My mum actually bought her own christmas present and gave it to me to wrap, which broke my heart. I hate being skint.

Do it all the damned time. Don't see any reason to hang on to something I don't want when someone else might be able to enjoy it.

I hate obligatory gifts, too. I'll get rid of them just to get rid of the constant reminder.

My mother buys things for the type of daughter she wishes she had. Those go FAST. I'm not averse to selling them on eBay, even.

Sellin' stuff off on ebay or amazon is always a good, quick money source if you have no one left to re-gift your unwanted item to.

Although I've long since re-gifted most things I no longer want, I might rummage through old boxes to see what I can scrounge up to sell on ebay, cuz I'm running out of movies to sell.

I can only think of one time I regifted anything...I had gotten this odd-looking pottery candelabrum at a friend's yard sale, and I liked it all right, but one year at the place I was working at, we had a White Elephant gift exchange, and since I didn't have anything else suitable, I decided to give the odd-looking candelabrum.

At the end of the exchange, I got the candelabrum back.

I figured it was a Sign, and I never tried to regift it again. We kept it until a cat knocked it off the table and broke it, and then we had to toss it.
