I have a group of people coming here for a meeting tonight. We always home baking with the after meeting coffee.... I am not domestic enough to bake cakes and cookies... so I just bought a nice looking average cake... the question is should I pass it off as my own or from the bakery?????

Be yourself.

tell them it's from the bakery, but you asked for soemthing specific and it was made for you.

Lol!! If you think you can get away with it I guess!

Why not just confess it's from a store?

take a spatula and respread the frosting. Then yeah, go for it

I have some chocolate chips in the pantry, I might sprinkle those over the icing and leave the packet of chips on the counter.... ;)

Because they will give me friendly shit for buying the cake. I knew a month ago the meeting was going to be at my place. We are all profesional people who don't have a heap of time to bake, so home baking is a treat for us...

Just don't say anything unless they ask. I would say you had it made though because you were too busy that day or something

Heh, I hate having to bake for a deadline too. I suppose a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do :)

I do nice waffles.... maybe I should stop typing here and go make some miniture ones with strawberry jam and whipped cream on them......

sigh... I hate cooking

actually, if you do that, you can confidently say that you contributed to the making of the cake :)

If I suspected it was store bought (and you can usually tell by the frosting) I'd ask you for the recipe.

No, it's not something I'd do. I go with the don't ask, don't tell policy. But personally I think it's just as nice to share the name of a good bakery as it is to share a good recipe.

I've done that.

TH just admit it's store bought if anyone asks. No one should care, and if they do so what.

Well they have all been and gone and ate the lot.... nothing was said by me. But my husband mentioned it must of been my Mother that made them because my cooking does not taste that good, lol

I shall now go and tell him it was from the bakery.... ;)

So I didn't tell any non truths :D

Along the same lines shold I try this with a strap on? I guess I would have to fill a condom earlier to make the illusion realistic;)

Seriously why do you need to impress these people, Do you not feel worth knowing without cookie creative talents?

I would just dish them up, most peeps would be glad you thought to buy them.

Sometimes with entertaining its easy to get so caught up in turning out a beautiful meal you get lost in the stress and forget the real reason is to see the people you have invited, keep it simple and let the wine flow.

Nobody would believe me for a second! lol :D

But what a great idea!
And think of all the dishes you dont have to scrape clean!

I was not trying to impress them, we just have an unwritten rule that we have home baking with our coffee after....

I don't give a shit if people don't like me.... take me as I am. :D
But I knew I would get a comical hard time if they knew I bought the food and had not cooked it....

Yep I can't see the reason for spending hours in a kitchen baking then the product is gone in minutes.... I'd rather spend hours doing my art wrok and then if I like it I can hang it on the wall and look at it for years. :)

I like spending hours baking sweets that people get into fork fights over.

However, the best thing to do is follow your conscience. If it'll bug you to white lie, don't do it. Instead of getting something average, get something that would be a treat they wouldn't normally get (like a 50 dollar cheesecake or something) and explain to them that you couldn't homebake this time or you would have.

If you don't have any qualms about it, add the chocolate chips, re-spread the frosting, and don't mention it unless someone asks.
