Do you live in Texas? Do you use a firewall? YOU ARE A CRIMINAL! (soon)

Legislation with such broad ranging ramifications should have a very difficult time passing any local or federal governmental approval process. If for no reason than people like Bill Gates would fight it.

There is WAY too much money tied up in this kind of technology for big business to buy in on it, and if big business doesn't back it, you can forget the government yahoo who proposed it ever getting re-elected.

Still, it is an excellent example of the kinds of knee-jerk reaction politics that some uninformed pencil pushers will sometimes get up to on their lunch hour.

These days the word "Terrorism" will get you a lot of leeway in the restriction of things.

Already too much in this line is illegal - many methods of encryption are illegal in the US. It's just not right. 8 other states are persuing laws similar to this one, but nobody cared when I posted that thread.

The word Terrorism carries a lot of weight, but to make every business software application obsolete or illegal in one fell swoop can not and will not pass. You talk Terror, people get afraid. You talk taking apart EVERYONE's business, the money will fight tooth and nail, and they will win. Hands down.

well I am going to be JOB HUNTING soon anyway, so where do I want to move???

GOD BLESS AMERICA! LAND OF THE FREE! HOME OF THE BRAVE! ONLY TERRORISTS WANT TO PROTECT THEIR COMPUTERS! IF YOU PROTECT IT THEN YOU MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE!

Whoever they got to comment on those laws has their head up their ass. The text does not preclude the use of encryption or firewalls.

The law pertains to those that use 'proxies' or bogus accounts to send and recieve email.

The fact is that you can't really hide your address, or the destination address, from the root ISP. If you were to do so, no mail you sent would be delivered (how could it be, they wouldn't know how to route it?) and nothing sent to you could be recieved (for the same reason. They wouldn't know where to route the delivery.)

Assuming that such a bill passes, and I'm not sure that it will, it is almost impossible to enforce.

Well, this does fit in with the US Congress belief that P2P supports terrorism.

Yes, if you use filesharing programs, you're a terrorist. Those MP3's and movies you're getting go to fund terrorism.
