Do you get Suspicious When...

A question and a request. I'm still pretty new around here so what is "H" status? Can you include a link here to one of your stories. I'd like to read a couple.

Anyway, isn't wirting what you do to please yourself? Sort of a rhetorical question because for me the answer is, yes, absolutely.

Hey, peeps! Thanks for all the replies. I'm in a better mood today, I promise! Think I just needed to vent because it had been building up for so long.

It appears Rumple beat me here, and was kind enough to answer your queries, espeteroh, so now I don't really know what to say. ;)

Wishful: I intentionally leave my stories out of my board sig line, for various reasons. :) I think Rumply tossed ya a link this time, though.

I've never been suspicious, but I did get terribly discouraged when I saw someone's member page with about 30 stories on it, covering every category, in the month of January alone. So I never bothered with the Survivor contest--I can't get my five stories read, let alone compete with someone who can post thirty in a month. :(

I felt the same at first lilred. But then I realised that my stories were still pretty damned good.

That's all that matters.

I don't know if the site tracks the votes by the ISP address or by the user name ... some of these idiots, with 30 different accounts they post under, they could all vote for each different user name's stories from the same computer and easily score an H for every one of them. And I'm sure many of them do.

But 30 stories posted? Come on. I rarely have more than six or eight posted at a time. I use Lit as a sounding board for what I consider rough drafts ... after a few months, if it gets good votes and some useful feedback, I pull the story, do some editing, then sell the damn thing. Fuck the votes, show me the money.

Good grammar, 'seduction' or 'sex' in your description, and graphic sex will get you a 4.5.

I take that back... decent grammar is fine.

Sincerely,

Remember, it's a big site with a lot of members, and not every author on the boards goes into the AH. When you're in your own corner of the boards it's easy to forget that.

I think I'm one of the ones with a small but loyal readership. My stories tend to bring home the H, but have comparatively few votes stacked up against others in their categories. Never won a cash prize, either, though I've been in the final running a few times.

Maybe it's because I dabble in many categories. Maybe it's because I have a tendency to write LONG stories spanning several Lit pages and even sometimes several chapters. Maybe it's because most of the time, I write stories that waste all that time on character development and buildup before getting right to the "good stuff."

Or maybe it's because, as KillerMuffin said in a quote I will forever treasure, I'm seriously vicious to women

Votes are nice, I won't deny. But what I like even better is feedback and comments. That shows someone did more than merely click a number, but took a few extra moments to share a personal thought. And of course, comments and feedback from fellow AHers, whose opinion I respect, means all the more.
