Do you ever delete comments?

Nope I have never deleted a comment, even the one that says I have serious mental health issues and need help.

I have deleted comments that had absolutely nothing to do with the story to which they were attached. One was an attack on the author of another comment, which seemed to indicate that the two were engaged in a personal feud that had nothing to do with me or my story. Another deleted comment was a personal threat against me. In both cases, I determined that neither comment would contribute to a discussion of the story's merits.

Otherwise, I leave all comments in place--even the negative comments.

When the criticism is telling me that there are structural problems with the story or that I didn't really fulfill what is expected of the category, heck no I won't delete it. But when the comment leaves me wondering if the reader was actually literate I tend to zap it. I suppose I should have left up the one where the reader spent time telling me that my story couldn't have possibly taken place in Australia because I was using the wrong slang. But there was no reference to Down Under anywhere in it!

Goo, bad and indifferent I leave them all. The only ones I get tempted to remove are the ones that Selena Kitt mentioned when it appears people are "conversing" though the comments that's kind of annoying but I promised myself I would let the chips fall and leave everything and so far have held to that.

I deleted a comment telling me that I spelled a celebrity name incorrectly. I made the correction, resubmitted the story, and deleted the comment that was no longer needed.

Everything else that has been commented about my stories has been left up for all to see, no matter how negative or abusive.

I haven't deleted any in a long while. I deleted ones that obviously were carryover jabs from this forum and had nothing to do with the stories they were posted to. They were posted to irritate me, so I didn't have any trouble deleting them to irritate the coward anonymous poster back. They pretty much stopped after a while (about the times the forum posters I assumed they were from departed the forum).

And from time to time I've also deleted ones that were diatribes about the story's topic rather than the story itself--or that made uninformed editorial comments--or that revealed the story hadn't been read.

The delete button was put there for you to use just as much as the comment button was put there for others to use.

ESTROGEN

I think people can sort the comments out, and I think it helps you if your critics are over the top assclowns. I mean, if every critic is Krusty the Assclown, and every flatterer is Mom, folks know where to split the difference.

I checked out a new autobiography today from the library. About 1/2 the book is flattering testimonials from VIPs (a red flag), and chapter one is a major ass smoooch of Martin Luther King by the writer (a Georgia farmboy of the 50s). I closed the covers cuz not even St. Jimmy Carter loved Martin back in the 50s. The book could use a dollop of humility, if you get my drift.

I plan to start my next story comment with this: I'D LOVE TO SEE A HOUSE DROP ON THIS WORTHLESS MOTHER-FUCKER BUT HE DOES WRITE WELL, AND THIS IS A FIVE STAR TALE.

Yup

So that was you!

Seriously my favorite all time comment was titled "one sick puppy" it was long and rambling and said that I was sicker than my characters and that my series was like looking at a train wreck, you know it's going to be bad, you know you shouldn't look but can't help it.

They also stated that I was probably never hugged as a child. After a few more shots at me the commenter (anon of course) went on to say he meant all those things in a good way. Classic.

I've deleted particularly vicious comments from stories in the Loving Wives section that had nothing to do with the quality of the story, but were just general hating on the genre, like "This sucks because that whore didn't get AIDS and die." But if someone just didn't like the story for other reasons I leave it.

Yes, I did delete one flame thrower's comment. But not because he or she was a flame thrower. I deleted it because this is an English language site, and the anon in question had clearly skipped the second, third, fourth, (etc) lessons in his or her ESL course.

As far as I am concerned, if you are going to criticise someone's writing skills, you had better be able to demonstrate some writing skills of your own.
