Yes, I realize there are people on this board from all over the world. Those of you who do not live in the United States of America, I'm not talking to you. But, those of you who do live in the states, do you look at the packaging to see where the product was made?

I went shoping today. At Target, everything I bought was Made In USA. I like that. Ever since the whole "spy plane" incident with China last year, I've really hated having to buy something that says Made in China on it. But, a lot of the time I have no choice. There is no equivalent product on the shelf with a USA label.

That brings up another peev of mine. Do you know how long it took me to find a flag pin that didn't say China on the back? WTF? We can't even manufacture our own pins and flags? I'm a teacher and all the schools and PTA's and such were handing out flag pins all last year. I refused to wear one that was made in China.

"Made" in the USA usually means Assembled in the USA using parts from China or Taiwan.

Sometimes, yes. Usually you can spot the fine print that says Made in USA of foreign and domestic parts.

I use to think I did until I read the posts here LOLLL
At least my intentions are patriotic;)

usually they lack that, at least in a size that is ledgeble after being embroidered onto a tag.

Here's another question

Would you be willing to pay slightly more for a US made product than a comparable foreign made product?

I dont care where anything is made. All I care about is does the shit do the job I bought it for.

You know those markers you use to find out if bills are real or not? The one my store uses was made in Taiwan = ) seriously.

the trick is to not buy things that were made in other countries by people making shit for wages. I won't buy nike, for instance.

The problem with that trick is that every developing country has pretty much gone through a phase like that. It happened here. Before that I believe it also happened in Great Britain. I remember reading an article about it a while back. Some economist was criticizing developed countries for stepping in to protect people in "sweat shop" conditions in underdeveloped countries when that was exactly what had led to said developed countries' prosperity. Not that I agree with it, but it was an interesting point.

.

Nope...

My car is japanese (toyota).

I mostly buy whatever I can afford/whatever has the best rep. I don't particularily care where it was made.

In my little part of the world a local shoe/boot manufacturing company moved the entire operation to Puerto Rico. Over 40 + people lost their jobs. Many of these individuals had 25 years or more of service. I find it difficult to believe that America can continue to prosper if America continues to deindustrialize. "Made in America" used to mean something, :(

I'm not much of a clothes shopper. I usually have my sis go with me, because, she's my "fashion expert." She says, "This looks good. And, I'm like, "Ok, lets go."

Thank globalism...

60% of new Harley-Davidson's are made from import parts. The Boeing Company makes aircraft from about 75% imported parts. I try to buy American, but thanks to DC, and the industry, they're hard to find! I look at the labels, and so far so good! All the clothes I'm wearing right now has the "made in the USA" tag. (that could be US territories too I think) My truck is a 1988 Dodge, my motorcycle is a 1953 Harley (with American parts-original), and some hand me down furniture that I know is US made.
We can only be savvy consumers, but you cannot get 100% USA consumables anymore. :D

I don't try to buy exclusively American made products, but I will avoid buying products from certain countries when there is an American made product that is comparable.

I buy only American made vehicles. However, I know that many American made vehicles are assembled in Mexico, and I actually don't mind that at all. Products coming out of Mexican auto plants are excellent. And, the UAW basically ran the manufacturing jobs to Mexico.

I have always prefered not to buy products from Japan, China or Korea, when it is convenient not to. After the recent trade sanctions the EU put on the U.S., I think I'll avoid buying anything from the EU. Hell, they don't make anything I really want anyway.

:D

No doubt. The UAW members should be working for 3 bucks and hour with no insurance. Greedy bastards. Imagine those people wanting to live in houses and eat food and have medical care. Unthinkable.

Dude, you really care that much about shit like that? Life is way too short. I don't give a flying fuck where something is made as long as it is of good quality and does what it says it will do.

I shop Wal-Mart and Tar-jay so I likely buy "Made In Honduras By 10 Year Old Girl"

Now Peter Piper picked a pepper, that was his downfall

Do I care about the wages I earn? Yes I do. Texan made a comment about the UAW pushing work to Mexico. The UAW must have also pushed Crest toothpaste and a million other companies in the same fashion. Did your Crest toothpaste drop in price because of this? No. Crest toothpaste is just making more money per tube.

NAFTA fucks America's working class and gives the rich Republicans another blowjob.

Life is too short to work 70 hour weeks and live in a cardboard box.
