Secret Garden starring Kate Maberly
Writers (WGA):
Frances Hodgson Burnett (book)
Caroline Thompson (screenplay)
* * * *
In my stories, it is usually the girl who instigates things, makes things happen, causes trouble, pushes the envelope.
In my novel, it is a young girl that discovers art in pre historic times and startles the world around her.
I suppose this will be received as political but it is not. I think that 'magic' in a young girl's heart and eyes, is truly an amazing thing to behold.
I suppose, the fact that I have five daughters also counts in somehow, the honor of watching little girls grow up, they are truly different.
Therein, lies the politically incorrect portion, I suppose, that girls are special and different from little boys, and I raised three sons also.
But trust me, those of you who have not had the good fortune to be in proximity to a young female, they delight the soul in more ways than can be counted.
Kate Maberly gives a magnificent performance in Secret Garden, but more than her words and gestures, is the look in her eyes...like the Mona Lisa, something deep and mysterious and feminine to a depth and a level unknown to the lesser male of the species.
I could write a thousand stories about the magic in a young girls eyes and still leave a thousand unwritten.
Get busy!
