Or do you believe we make our own way in life?

Do you think it is a little 50/50 of both?

Do you think your life is pre~ordained and you are ultimately following a script that was planned out for you?

Do you believe you can change the direction in which your life is going?

What's your take?

Cause: 50/50.

I don't believe; i know it.

Absolutely you can change course. The key, is in your hotel's drawer.

I believe for the most part, we make our own way in life, which is shaped enormously by our upbringing.

There is an element of chance, of course, that's why people play the Powerball.....or are the 1-in-a-million who never smoked a day in his/her life but got lung cancer.

Overall, I don't think much of "fate".

Everything we do is based on decisions we make, from the smallest ones to the big ones, so we can absolutely change the direction we go in.

That said, sometimes you reach a place, or meet a person, and it feels so right that it's as if everything came together just to make it happen. If there is fate, perhaps it's like a choose-your-adventure story: it follows your decisions and adjusts accordingly. :)

I don't think every little thing is predestined, but I do believe that certain things, event and people are meant to happen. There are those people and events that you KNOW changed your world.

Life is not scripted; it is a series of endless possibilities and decision points. We mostly notice the decision points that we fuck up.

I do, kinda. But i also believe you make your own way in life.

i believe that thinking that anything is either this or that is nonsense.

You make your own luck. Live by the words "Fortune favors the prepared".

And I have always been lucky.

I think things, occasions, people, are put in our path...fate, but how we react to that is our way of determining our life path.

Froya, I love the choose your own adventure take, and I think that may be spot on. Fate leads you to something, but how that something works out is up to each individual person.

I am going through a bit of that right now. If "x" would not have happened then "y" and "z" never could have either... I am pretty happy about y and z right now even if x sucked.

Dead serious.

You can just put me on ignore, or answer seriously, or just don't answer at all.

Life gives us choices. I truly believe EVERYTHING happens for a reason. Fate brings us to a point, but we have to make the decision of where that point goes.

We are all where we are in our life because of the decisions we make and the actions we take, and not because of fate. Even when deciding to not choose, or do something, we are still making a choice that will influence the course of our future.

No one has a preordained destiny. Happenstance and the mad randomness of things make things interesting, sure, and can certainly challenge us at times.
How we behave, our attitudes, and a willingness to change can also affect our lives.

Kismet is convenient, and is used by some to absolve themselves of accountability.

Girrrrl you are making your own way RIGHT now... way to take life and make it your bitch! I am excited for you!!!

i believe that thinking that anything is either this or that is nonsense.

I am not saying everything is pre~ordained. I like to think that we have free will and can make our destiny anything we want it to be. There is a story behind this thread that I am not going to share on the open board, but it made me curious as to what others thought about... Fate!

You make your own luck. Live by the words "Fortune favors the prepared".

And I have always been lucky.

I take accountability for my actions. I do think we make our way in life, but i also think that fate plays a hand. How minuscule a role, or if you leave it all up to fate, is on each individual. *just my opinion*

You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that’s clear
I will choose free will

Thank you, accountability is very important. Never would I say I got a parking ticket because of fate. I so want to disclose the reason I am asking about fate right now, but it is kind of personal and I am trying really hard NOT to put so much personal information out there anymore due to recent malicious acts on the board.

Let's take this for example because everyone on the GB knows that Porkwarrior and I have spent a lot of time together in the past. We were going to book a hotel around Halloween last year and could not find one in the area that we wanted ( we were actually looking for a house on Air B&B ) I remembered a place in Albany WI which was only 15 - 20 minutes away from where I work. We booked it, had an amazing time in this little small town and on the last day PW was outside talking to a local who owned the general store across from our B&B ane they came inside. Turns out the local has the same first name as PW AND he has an apartment available to rent in December.

IF we were able to rent a place where we actually wanted to go I never would have had the amazing apt that I do now. There were quite a lot of If's actually and I do believe that fate had a hand in this scenario. Of course, the decisions I made after fate plopped this into my lap led to me ultimately getting what I wanted, but there were so many variables that led me there that I have to believe fate helped!

If you and I were to get freaky, would that be considered fate? ;)

Only if we did not prearrange a meeting and somehow, some way, we were both in the same place at the same time and our freakies clicked! :D

Mr. Peart penned it rather eloquent.

I'd chalk that up to pleasant happenstance, with a dash of the fortune favouring the prepared mentioned in a post above.

I don't know. I mean, I believe we have free will, but it seems like sometimes you're just stuck no matter what you do or how hard you try.

This is true. When I get down and start thinking there is no hope, I push myself to find hope. To find a way to get what I want no matter what. I am a bit stubborn... I hope you you are not stuck polly I hope life is going really well for you!

Expect the best, but be prepared for the worst?
