I agree, but to an extent. Ideally, it would be comforting to know the other(s) is not harmed in fulfilling our devices/vices. Doing. "as you please" as I say can come with a price.

Depends on what area of life we are talking about.... but in general, yes I think that :D

I agree but I add this

do as you please so long as noone including yourself is harmed.

Yes, but how do you know truely when you are harmed?

I mean, I was practically raped by another male when I was nine, but I feel normal.

So, its all really in an individuals heart whether they feel harmed or not, and hearts are tricky things...

You brought up a good point to this O_T_V.

I STILL don't think ANYONE has the right solution to humanities woes, and don't think they ever will, especially religion.

I hope it's been a while and the healing has been fulfilling within you. Hearts are tricky and it is our minds that are quite nebulous and sometimes…not interchangeable with others. Some how, I feel something underlying in your words, but that's the human mind and society that bridges and also dissects us.

Personally, even though it was more for martial arts, I think Bruce Lee had the right idea. Don't shackle yourself down to any one particular 'style'. Take from diferent areas the things that compliment YOU. But then, this is me being nieve, thinking that people can be good.

I would add to it, by saying "Do what you will, so long as none are harmed, and you are willing to face the consequences of your actions."

Underlying O_T_V? How do you mean?

"What do I mean?" I believe you have spoken for the many times our fellow Lit's have read my posts. :D I did not intend "underlying" to be like a deception or ulterior motive. But, there must have been things in your episodic life that brought you to post this particular thread.

There is insight to "doing as I please" and it's from trying so hard to please others, but as a few years ago, I figured out that I had to please myself and never expect or need gratitute or another to do what I do best…control my own happiness in life and perhaps share that with the "right" other…

Blaze, as long as those consequinces are of natural life and not formed from a faliable human mind, that thinks, just because I park in the wrong spot, I should pay them fifty dollars +... Sure.

To not 'please' someone else does not necisarilly harm them, you know O_T_V... Hell, I never pleased my parents, but they're still happy people.

All must live
All must share
All must give
All must bare

Harm none
Heal many
Your toil done
Feast upon plenty

Live, do as thou wilt
Bring no malice
And peace is built
Sweet abrosia of life's chalice

Yours to savor
As one with all
Your own spice to flavor
Join with the ancient call

All must live
All must share
All must give
All must bare

Do as thou wilt, harm none...

Let me get back to you on that note. I need to take a walk and get some fresh air, ugh!

Like I said, its all in the individuals heart, and hearts are tricky things.

Ravenloft, how do you deal with the issue of unintentional damages. Hearts are tricky, mysterious, and fickle things. Yet we manipulate tem with our every move, every thought, every action.

I personally feel we must try to prevent these thigns, but when the inevidable happens, what do you do in response?

Yes I agree. Totally. Completely. Its not even necessary to add "including yourself" - I think "as long as none are harmed" is all inclusive... however let us get the quote straight - and full - and in context... then we'll see what everyone has to say...

There is no law beyond Do what thou wilt.
Love is the law, love under will.

I wonder - even a statement like this often brings vitriol and derision and even horror from some. Let me ask... if love is true then how can one do anything other than what thou wilt? And if love is true how could one possibily ever harm another? The answer is one can't. And it shouldn't even be necessary to explain that. But in order to save myself the trouble of doing so later - I do it now.

There is no law beyond Do what thou wilt.
Love is the law, love under will.

and... I will add... by more ancient rites...

'An Do What You Will be the challenge,
So be it in Love that harms none,
For this is the only commandment,
By Magick of old, be it done.

(via Rabelais)

Es gibt kein Gesetz außer Tu was du willst.
Liebe ist das Gesetz, Liebe unter Willen.

Perhaps I should change my title to "The Great Beast - *weg*

Well, I went out and tried to go to the usual hangouts, where friends and acquaintances huddle in the watering hole, but you know I could not bring myself to it. It's like I am leaving here anyway…

Anyhoo, I ran out of steam about posting. My parents are happy with me, but I am far from where they would like me. I finally chose to talk to them and let them know that if they love and believe in me, they would allow me to find and embrace my own happiness.

Let me sip on my Tanqeuray & tonic, but I do hope you pay that parking ticket…

Happy to see the rede quoted in it's entirety. In my opinion the whole thing is about motives, consequences and karma.

It has been said that a man's heart can justify anything but karma is the great equalizer.
