That's what I was thinking. After all, a vegan isn't a vegetarian, per se. It was my impression that a vegan wouldn't eat any animal product. Eggs, milk, cheese, butter, etc.

Vegetarian, they will eat anything that is not meat. Some of them will eat fish, but oddly not that many.
