Watching Jimmy Kimmel and he has Janeane Garofalo on as a special co host for the week. Which will be a week I don't guess I will watch now.
Anyway, she of course starts on her anit-war speech and reasons for why her opinion should sway us to her side.
I sit here thinking about how many "has been" stars are on jumping on the same bandwagon of the anti-war campaign. I realize that I have lost any respect I ever had for these people as entertainers.
Mike Farrel? Well, he is the one I am most disappointed about losing respect for him. His mother in law was my little sister's 3rd grade teacher. This was during the MASH years. He would come to town for holidays and meet her classes during his visits. I always thought of him as a regular kind of guy who didn't take his celebrity status as seriously as others did. He never seemed arrogant or above the rest of Stillwater Oklahoma holiday visitors.
Now I see him, Martin Sheen, Janeane and others like them, whose spot light has faded, speaking out as though they were the moral spokespeople for the American people, and all I can think of is that they are just a bunch of entertainers looking for a camera lens to focus on them.
I don't value their opinions as though they are some supreme authority on what we as a nation should do. Why do they think that just because they are famous that we should pay more attention to them?
I am not saying they should shut up, after all it is their right to protest. I am saying that they should see themselves as every other citizen putting their two cents in on a subject they feel strongly about and stop trying to cram their celebrity status down our throats. I am tired of seeing them attack Bush, and those in this country that disagree with them and getting the air time just because of who they are. How shallow do they think we as a nation are?
They are entertainers, trying to capture the political spotlight just because their stage light went out.
So my question to you is this.....Do their views and arguments sway you at all?
I guess the biggest reason this bothers me is because I could care less if people are famous or not. I don't watch reality shows, or gossip shows because I could care less about who these people are. I am not a celebrity watcher and could care less how important they think they are. I feel this way about anyone who tries to flaunt their status to the rest of us normal folks. I know there are many here who are so infatuated with that kind of crap, but I am not one of them.
Are you?
